Mother’s Day is always very special for me, it’s the day I give thanks for having for such a wonderful mother and grandmother! My mom is one of the kindest, most wonderful people on earth. For those who don’t know, we care full-time for my grandmother who has Alzheimer’s. It’s a very tough job, but we couldn’t imagine not doing so. There are many times when we’re up at all hours of the night with my grandma (like last night), and at times it’s worse than others. Instead of being angry, my mom continues to be a blessing to others. On Easter she made food for a family who was in need, brought flowers to a friend who lost her mother during the holidays to brighten up her first holiday without her mom, today she surprised a good friend buy planting flowers at her shop, and tomorrow she’s planning on doing the same for others.
My grandmother was the same way before she got sick. In fact she still thinks of me as if I was a little girl and looks out for me. She tells my mom she wants to help her do the laundry, clean the house and even asks me if she left the beans on the stove. Granted it’s been years since she’s touched the stove, but I always tell her not to worry and I turned them off for her! One day I can only hope to be half the mother, cook and human being that my grandmother and mom are. They’ve strengthened me in so many ways, taught me kindness and to work hard. What more can you ask for? With Mother’s Day just a few weeks away (May 10th) and my mother’s birthday on May 12th, it’s time to start shopping for Mother’s Day.
