When I was a little girl, I couldn’t wait to decorate our house for Christmas. I loved helping my grandmothers decorate their homes, too, and one of my favorite traditions was spending the first day of Christmas break at my grandma and grandpa Anderson’s house. My grandma and I would decorate their mantel and Christmas tree together. It was something I looked forward to every year, and those memories are still such a special part of Christmas for me.
I still love bringing out the holiday decorations and watching a room come together. This year, I decorated our living room with classic plaid pillows, evergreen garland, glowing taper candles, and white and silver Christmas trees. Our stone fireplace and brown leather seating give the room so much warmth, and I wanted the Christmas decorations to feel at home with the pieces we use every day.
I’m so happy to partner with Wayfair once again to share our holiday living room. I love being able to find Christmas decorations alongside beautiful furniture, pillows, baskets, and serveware that I can enjoy throughout the year. My new gold ornate mirror became the centerpiece of the mantel, and the rest of the room came together with greenery, woven textures, and a little holiday baking. One thing is for sure: Wayfair has everything you need to furnish and decorate your home, and they also offer free shipping!
Below, I’m sharing how I decorated our Christmas mantel, styled the leather sofa, and brought the holiday details onto our rustic coffee table. I hope you find a few ideas you’ll love for your own home.

How I Decorated Our Living Room for Christmas

The fireplace was my starting point. With its large stone surround and long wooden mantel, it is already the focal point of the room. I wanted to bring in greenery and candlelight, then add Christmas pieces that would show up beautifully against the stone.
I carried those details into the seating area with red plaid pillows and an ivory pillow with evergreen trees. On the coffee table, a berry and greenery arrangement picks up the red in the pillows, while a woven tray holds a few decorative trees. A spice cake beneath a glass dome makes the room feel ready for a holiday afternoon at home.

Give the Christmas Mantel a Focal Point With a Gold Mirror

My new 24-by-36-inch gold ornate mirror is one of my favorite additions to the living room. I love the ornate detailing at the top and the way the gold frame looks against the stone. Centering it above the fireplace gave me a place to begin arranging the garland and candles.
A mirror is also a piece I can leave up after Christmas. Once the seasonal decorations are packed away, I can style the mantel around it with different accents. For the holidays, the warm frame looks beautiful with dark greenery, ivory candles, and the silver details throughout the room.

Layer Faux Cedar Garland Across the Mantel

I used faux cedar garland across our long mantel, allowing some branches to fall over the front edge. The greenery softens the wood and stone and connects the decorations from one end of the fireplace to the other.
This garland is listed as six feet long, and I used multiple garlands for our mantel. If you have a long fireplace mantel, it helps to measure it before choosing your greenery. I like being able to overlap sections and adjust the branches around the candleholders so the arrangement feels full without hiding every bit of the wood.
I kept this greenery free of string lights and ribbon. The candles provide the glow, and the branches make a beautiful setting for the smaller Christmas decorations.\
Add Candlelight With Gold Candlesticks and Flameless Tapers

I placed six gold taper candleholders on the mantel, with three on each side of the mirror. Their different heights add interest above the greenery, and their slender shape leaves room for the other decorations.
The battery-operated LED taper candles give the fireplace that soft candlelit look I love for Christmas. They are especially convenient when I want the mantel to glow while we’re enjoying the living room.
I also brought in darker ribbed glass candleholders at the ends of the mantel. I love the contrast between their textured glass and the slim gold candlesticks. Wayfair’s Blomus VEN glass hurricane is a beautiful option for adding that kind of glass detail to a holiday display.

Finish the Mantel With a White Deer and Metallic Christmas Accents

An ivory deer brings a sweet Christmas detail to one side of the mantel, while white and silver trees add height on the other. Their pale finishes stand out against the stone, and I love seeing the different textures beside the greenery.
Wayfair has lovely decorative pieces for a winter mantel, including this white sitting deer with a faux pine accent. A small deer figure can sit among greenery or beside a candleholder without taking up much space.
I tucked ornaments individually through the garland, leaving their finishes visible among the branches. A set of gold shatterproof ornaments is useful for decorating beyond the Christmas tree, too. A few along a mantel or in a decorative bowl can carry a little shine into another part of the room.

Bring Christmas Trees Onto the Fireplace Hearth

I continued the Christmas display below the mantel with white and silver trees on the hearth. I arranged the white trees on one side of the fireplace screen and the silver trees on the other. The different heights fill out the lower part of the fireplace and make the whole area feel decorated.
If you love this look, Wayfair has decorative cone tree sets that can be arranged on a hearth, console, or tabletop. I like having a few trees of different sizes so I can move them around until the arrangement feels right.
Repeating the tree shapes above and below the mantel ties the fireplace together. It also lets the stone remain a beautiful part of the Christmas display.

Create a Warm Foundation With a Brown Leather Sofa

Our new Canora Grey genuine leather sofa has made such a difference in the living room. I needed to replace our previous sofa after Griffey damaged it, and I wanted genuine leather for our home. The brown leather looks beautiful beside the stone fireplace and our existing leather chairs.
The sofa is listed at 86.6 inches wide, with rolled arms and nailhead trim. Those traditional details work well with the rustic coffee table, and the rich brown makes a lovely backdrop for Christmas pillows.
I wanted the room to feel comfortable throughout the year, so the holiday color comes largely from pieces I can change seasonally. The sofa gives me a warm foundation for plaid at Christmas and other pillow combinations once winter is over.
Layer Plaid Throw Pillows for a Classic Christmas Sofa

Plaid was an easy choice for the sofa. I placed larger cream, red, and dark plaid pillows at the outer ends, then layered red tartan pillows in front. Their colors are beautiful against brown leather and bring that familiar Christmas feeling into the seating area.
Wayfair has plenty of plaid options, including the FabStyles Celebration plaid pillow and this cotton plaid throw pillow. Mixing a lighter plaid with a deeper red pattern gives the sofa more depth while keeping the colors connected.
I used five pillows on our sofa: two layered at each end and a smaller lumbar pillow in the middle. The arrangement feels full, but you can still see the leather and the shape of the sofa.
Add a Winter Pillow You Can Enjoy After Christmas

The ivory lumbar pillow in the center of the sofa has a beautiful evergreen tree design. Its lighter background gives the red plaid a little breathing room, and the trees connect the sofa to the greenery and decorations around the fireplace.
Wayfair has many beautiful pillows that are perfect for Christmas and the holidays, as well as the rest of winter. This Winter Watercolor Pine Forest lumbar pillow is a lovely example of a seasonal design that can stay out after the Christmas decorations come down.
I love having a few pieces like this in the room. An evergreen print can work with red plaid in December, then with neutral pillows and a cozy throw later in winter.
Keep a Cozy Knit Throw in a Woven Basket

Beside the fireplace, I placed a woven basket with a knit blanket inside. The basket brings another natural texture to the stone hearth, and it keeps a throw close by when we want to curl up in the living room.
A woven water hyacinth basket with handles is a beautiful way to store blankets without hiding them away. I like allowing part of a throw to show over the rim so you can see its texture.
Wayfair’s chunky chenille knit throw would be lovely for this kind of winter styling. A soft neutral blanket works with the Christmas pillows now and can remain in the room throughout the colder months.
Decorate a Rustic Coffee Table for Christmas

I kept our rectangular coffee table and styled it with three main elements: a greenery arrangement, a cake stand, and a woven tray with decorative trees. I love the weathered wood, so I left plenty of the tabletop visible around them.
The table’s generous surface gives me room for decorations while still leaving space to set down a drink. If you’re looking for a table with this kind of warmth, Wayfair has a wide selection of rustic rectangular coffee tables.
I also like the contrast between the tabletop and the pieces on it. The clear glass, pale ceramic vase, and woven tray each have their own texture, and the Christmas greenery brings color into the center of the room.
Make a Christmas Arrangement With Greenery and Red Berries

For the coffee table arrangement, I used a rounded cream vase filled with greenery, eucalyptus, boxwood, and red berry stems. The berries pick up the red in the plaid pillows, and the softer leaves give the arrangement a little movement around the upright greenery.
A rounded terracotta table vase is a beautiful choice for winter branches. I love a vase with a generous opening because I can spread the stems out and enjoy the different shapes of the foliage.
A few artificial red berry sprays are an easy way to bring Christmas color into an arrangement. I placed the berries where they would show between the greens and let some of the foliage extend to the sides. The finished arrangement looks festive on the coffee table without needing a bow or an elaborate floral design.
Style Decorative Christmas Trees in a Scalloped Woven Tray

My round scalloped woven tray holds three decorative trees in different finishes. I placed the tallest toward the back, with the shorter pieces in front so each one is visible. I love the scalloped edge and the warmth of the woven texture beside the metallic trees.
Wayfair has gorgeous scalloped woven trays for coffee tables and consoles, as well as mercury glass Christmas tree sets for creating a holiday display. A tray makes a few small decorations feel like one arrangement and is easy to lift away when you need more space on the table.
I brought mercury glass trees onto both the mantel and coffee table. Repeating that finish in different parts of the living room helps connect the displays while letting each area have its own arrangement.
Display a Pine Forest Spice Cake Under a Glass Dome

I baked a spice cake in my Nordic Ware Pine Forest Bundt Cake Pan and finished it with powdered sugar. The pan creates a little forest of trees, and the sugar looks like a dusting of snow over the tops. If there’s one thing I love the most about Nordic Ware pans it’s that they have the power to elevate any regular box cake mix! I will admit I was very intimidated when I bought this cake pan years ago because the design is so intricate, but I followed the directions and made sure I sprayed it well with baking spray with flour and it came out beautifully. I have been obsessed ever since! I must have at least 15 pans that are perfect for various holidays and
I displayed the cake beneath a clear glass dome (on my cake stand) on the coffee table. It is such a pretty addition to a Christmas room, especially beside the greenery and decorative trees. The forest shape is decorative on its own, so a simple finish was all I wanted.
The Libbey Selene cake stand with dome is a beautiful option for displaying holiday baking. Clear glass lets the cake’s details show and works with almost any seasonal decor. I love bringing out a cake stand for Christmas, then using it again for birthdays and other occasions throughout the year.

How to Style a Classic Christmas Living Room in 2026

I like beginning with the part of the room that naturally draws your attention. In our living room, that is the fireplace. Once the mirror, greenery, and candles were in place, I could carry those details into the sofa pillows and coffee table.
Repeating a few colors made the room feel connected. The red in the plaid appears again in the berry arrangement, while ivory shows up in the lumbar pillow, deer, trees, and vase. Gold and silver bring a little shine, and the woven basket and tray add warmth beside the leather and wood.
You can also mix decorative pieces with things you’ll actually use. A blanket basket and a cake stand both have a place in our holiday room. I love how those everyday comforts sit alongside the Christmas decorations.
For your own Christmas living room, consider these styling ideas:
● Start with the fireplace or another focal point and build the room around it.
● Layer plaid pillows with a quieter winter print.
● Repeat a few colors and finishes across the mantel, seating, and coffee table.
● Mix greenery and woven textures with glass and metallic accents.
● Decorate the hearth as well as the mantel when you have the space.
● Leave usable space on the coffee table for drinks and everyday living.
Christmas Living Room Decorating FAQs

How do you decorate a stone fireplace for Christmas?
Evergreen garland looks beautiful against stone, and a mirror gives the mantel a central feature. Add candleholders at different heights and a few decorative accents that are visible against the fireplace’s colors. For our room, ivory and silver trees brighten the stone, while gold candlesticks bring warmth.
Can you mix gold and silver Christmas decorations?
Yes. I used a gold mirror and candlesticks alongside silver trees and ornaments. The greenery connects those finishes, and the ivory pieces help soften the overall arrangement. Repeating each finish in a few places makes the mix feel intentional.
What Christmas pillows look good on a brown leather sofa?
Red tartan and cream plaid are beautiful with brown leather. I layered both patterns at the ends of our sofa and added an ivory lumbar pillow with trees in the middle. You can keep the rest of the room fairly neutral and let the pillows bring in the Christmas color.
How many throw pillows should you use on an 86-inch sofa?
I used five on our 86.6-inch sofa: two at each end and one lumbar pillow in the center. It is a useful arrangement if you enjoy a layered look. Three pillows can also work if you prefer more open seating space.
How do you decorate a rectangular coffee table for Christmas?
Try an arrangement of winter greenery, a tray with a few decorations, and a piece of seasonal serveware. On our table, I used a vase of greenery and berries, decorative trees in a woven tray, and a spice cake under a glass dome. Leave space between the pieces so the tabletop remains visible and useful.
What Christmas decorations can stay out through winter?
Evergreen pillows, neutral knit throws, woven baskets, and simple greenery are all lovely for winter. I can also keep the mirror and candleholders in place and change the smaller accents around them.
Can you decorate a Christmas mantel without bows or string lights?
Absolutely. Garland, decorative trees, a deer figure, and battery-operated taper candles can make a mantel feel festive. I kept our greenery free of bows and string lights and used the tapers for a warm glow.
What is an easy way to decorate a Christmas cake?
A shaped Bundt pan does much of the decorating for you. I baked a spice cake in a pine forest pan and dusted the finished cake with powdered sugar. Once it had cooled, the sugar highlighted the tree shapes beautifully.
