Nothing screams old fashioned family Christmas quite like mercury glass! I just love mercury glass, it’s my absolute favorite. It’s classy, it’s chic and a definite statement piece. I must say if you’re looking for a fun DIY project to release some stress, it’s definitely creating mercury glass vases! As I’ve mentioned in the past in addition to conducting interviews for my website and blogging, I am a full-time caregiver for my grandmother who has Alzheimer’s. Last year when I was under an enormous amount of stress, I found out that spray painting vases and mason jars was not only fun but relieves stress too!
Today on “The Chew” Clinton Kelly dished on how to create mercury glass vases with Krylon’s Looking Glass spray, water, white vinegar, a spray bottle and an inexpensive vase. I’m so glad he featured this today and that we have the video to share with all of you. This is definitely a fun inexpensive project! One extra tip that I might add is to spray Clear Polyurethane Coating inside the jar once it dries just to protect it in case you want to put fresh flowers in your vase without damaging the vase.
How to DIY A Mercury Glass Vase With 3 Ingredients
The Krylon Looking Glass Spray Paint is a little bit more expensive than regular spray paint, but I guarantee you will LOVE it! I can’t wait to start spray painting some vases and mason jars during Thanksgiving week once I get a little bit of a break! 🙂
I really recommend adding a clear coat to the mercury glass once it dries. Last year around this time I DIY’d a beautiful mercury glass bowl, it was stunning. I decided to add water to it, and chunks of paint starting floating to the surface, it was horrible. My aunt who is a master crafter told me to add a clear coat and that would save me all the trouble. It really helped the next time around!
