Hockey star T.J. Oshie became a household name in February when he led the United States men’s hockey team to victory over Russia at the Winter Olympics in Sochi. His fiancée Lauren Cosgrove who was pregnant with the couple’s first child, was unable to make the trek.
On March 17th Lauren and T.J welcomed their first child, daughter Lyla Grace. The beautiful little girl was born with a rare defect called gastroschisis, a condition which dad, T.J. Oshie told “Today” is when “an infant is born with the intestines on the outside of the body.” According to Dr. Daniel DeUgarte, associate professor of pediatric surgery at Mattel Childrens Hospital at the University of California Los Angeles, the condition used to be fatal, but today there’s a 90% survival rate. Little Lyla Grace is recovering well and is said to be headed home early next week, which is sooner than originally expected.
Congratulations to the new parents! We wish dad T.J. and mom Lauren the best, and are so happy to hear Miss Lyla Grace Oshie is doing so well!
