The Toy Association Talks Top Holiday Toys For Kids
Watch The Toy Association senior director, Adrienne Appell talk the top last minute toy gifts for kids of all ages during a recent interview with journalist and blogger, Candace Rose Anderson of the blog Candie Anderson!
The Top Toy Trends For 2020
Candie Anderson: With the holidays upon us and 2020 a few short weeks away, can you give us the scoop on the latest toy trends?
Adrienne Appell: “Sure! I wanted to let you know that ToyAwards.org is really the best place to go for the most comprehensive shopping list out there. The Toy Association puts on a Toy Of The Year Awards program. While we announce the winners in February, right now all 114 finalists in 16 different categories are up on that website.
It really allows you to shop for the kids’ age and interest, so that’s what I love. I send all of my friends and family there when they ask me what to buy.”
How To Choose The Perfect Toy For Kids Of All Ages
Candie Anderson: What’s the secret to choosing the perfect toy for kids of all ages?
Adrienne Appell: “I think one of the things is to not get sucked in and don’t believe the hype. Every year one or two products, everybody will say this is the ‘must have thing.’ You really need to think about the age of the kid you’re shopping for and what they like to do. While no six year old is created equal, you’re not going to buy the same thing for a four year old that you’ll buy for a 10 year old.
Keep that in mind when you’re shopping. A kid who loves sports is going to be into something very very different than maybe somebody who loves to get into fashion. Not that kids don’t love more than one thing, but think about the kid you’re shopping for. It seems so basic, but sometimes we all get caught up in the hottest toy is and that kind of gets away from us.”
The Best Toy The Whole Family Can Enjoy
Candie Anderson: Are there any great toys that the whole family can play with this winter?
Adrienne Appell: “I love families connecting through games. Pictionary Air is a great product that’s out this holiday season. It’s nominated for the Game Of The Year Award. It takes the classic Pictionary play pattern, but it’s actually a pen where you draw in the air. It connects with an app. It makes for a really silly time because while you’re drawing, you’re not seeing on paper what’s going on. Your team members are trying to guess off of that app and sometimes the creations are quite hysterical.”
More Information On The Toy Association
Candie Anderson: Can you tell us about The Toy Association?
Adrienne Appell: “The Toy Association is a not-for-profit trade association. We work with the entire industry, so we do toy trends, we work on safety, we hold industry events. We get to play a lot which is super fun!”
Candie Anderson: Do you have any additional tips or information that you’d like to share with us?
Adrienne Appell: “ToyAwards.org is really your one-stop destination when you’re putting together that shopping list.”
