It’s no secret back to school season (or just school mornings in general) can be busy and hectic for parents. While I may not have children of my own just yet, I do remember what a struggle it was in the morning for my parents, especially since I’m not a morning person and had to be woken up numerous times before I’d be up and at ‘em! If you’re a busy parent on the go searching for simple ways you can make school mornings easier and less hectic, you’re in luck.

This week I was joined by the talented and hilarious mom duo, Cat and Nat (Catherine Belknap and Natalie Telfer). They have seven children between the two of them and are the most amazing moms. Cat and Nat know how much pressure there is to be the perfect mom, and have really made an impact on women across the country and around the world with their Mom Truths! They’ve been featured on countless programs including the Today show and are currently on tour! It was an honor to chat with them about how parents can make back to school mornings less stressful and more enjoyable.

Please be sure to watch the video below to see my interview with the talented and amazing Cat and Nat! They dished on how they are making back to school mornings better than ever and less hectic! Cat and Nat also shared how you can help moms on social media by sharing your morning routine with the hashtag #morningroutine.

How Cat and Nat Make Breakfast Back To School Resolutions

Candie Anderson: Can you tell us about the Kellogg’s Nutri-Grain survey and some of the results they found?

Nat: “Yes, Nutri-Grain surveyed moms and dads about back to school resolutions. It turns out that 84% of them say that they make these resolutions like Cat and I. But more than half of them in the first few weeks completely throw them away and are no longer doing them. We say to that, don’t feel bad about it. We’re all doing it – 84%, guys do them.

Another good one is eight out of 10 parents think that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. We also all agree it’s the most hectic and stressful time of the day. You put those two together and it can really be a lot of stress on parents.”

Cat: “It just makes you feel bad is what it does.”

Cat and Nat Share Back To School Morning Tips For Parents

Candie Anderson: With back to school season upon us, do you have any helpful tips for parents that you can share?

Cat: “Oh, boy. I think that we need to focus on getting ourselves to feel good about what we’ve done in the morning. I think we put so much pressure on ourselves. Nutri-Grain has a hashtag called #realmorning.

We love this campaign because it’s what we’re all about with our Mom Truths. We’re all doing the best we can. Some days it doesn’t go as amazingly as we love, but what’s important is we love our kids, they love us; we have a breakfast bar in their mouth; we have clothes on them and they get to school somewhat on time.

I feel like other than that, rather than sitting and feeling guilty all day about we haven’t done, let’s focus on what we have done.”

Cat and Nat Talk Morning Mishaps and Triumphs

Candie Anderson: Tell us about some of your own morning mishaps and triumphs.

Nat: “I feel like I make all these plans like we said with the survey about what I’m going to make for breakfast and how smoothly it’s all going to go, but when I have the four kids and I have given them a Nutri-Grain bar (and it has whole grains and real fruit) and I’ve given them the energy I feel that’s a mom win. I have sent them off on a good day with a good start ready to go to school. That’s literally enough for me and that should all be enough for you too.”

Cat: “I live across the street from the school and I’m still late. That’s like a mom confession. I do my best. They don’t listen. They don’t listen to me! I’m not sure what happens? The bags come on, their ears go off, someone forgets something – ‘Oh, I need this!’ We’ve had all morning. I told you to get ready 7,000 times.”

Nat: “She can hear the bell ring from her house and she’s like how did this happen?”

Cat: “There’s no pressure like seeing kids line up and your kids still aren’t dressed.”

How Parents Can Share Their Own Morning Routines

Candie Anderson: How can people share their own morning stress aka morning stories? 😉

Nat: “It’s the same thing, Candie, you’ve got it right.”

Cat: “Hashtag #realmorning. It’s not struggles, it’s real life. It’s life! We’re good moms even when some days things go sideways. That’s okay. That’s what it’s about.

Nat: “Share your real morning (#realmorning) so other moms can see that they’re not alone and we’re living this together.”

Cat: “We’re Cat and Nat on Instagram and on Facebook and on YouTube, it’s what our whole platform is about – bringing together a community based on basically imperfections, non-judgment and just realizing that everyone does it differently, but we all do it because we love our children and they love us.”

Cat and Nat Talk Upcoming Tour

Candie Anderson: And you’re also going on tour, correct?

Nat: We are!

Cat: “We’ve been on tour and we’re hitting up a bunch of cities in September and November, and we’re having the best time meeting women and moms and they always blow us away with their stories. They’re remarkable people, those moms.”

Nat: “Everyone needs to come to our shows even if we’re not coming to your city! Fly to the city, you deserve it.”

Candie Anderson: I saw you’re going to be on the East Coast, you need to come to the West Coast too!

Cat: “We did come to California. We did the West Coast out there, but we are coming back.”
