Monsta X is the hottest band in the world of K-Pop and they just embarked on a U.S. tour! The seven-piece K-POP group landed on three of Billboard’s Major Charts (Heatseekers at #8, World Albums at #2) and spent 31 Weeks on the Top Social 50 (Above Rihanna and Cardi B.). Their EP: The Connect: Dejavu sold 2,000 traditional albums in the week ending March 29 landing them squarely on the US Billboard Charts (a rare feat for K-pop acts). 

The members of Monsta X (Hyungwon, Shownu, I.M., Minhyuk, Jooheon, Kihyun, Wonho) were kind enough to join me for an interview this week to discuss their incredible accomplishments! They dished on their new album “The Connect” and their title track Jealousy. The chatted about their devoted fans “Monbebes” and what they are looking forward to most on their World Tour which includes stops in the U.S. Be sure to watch the video below to see the interview in its entirety! Candie Anderson: For those who are not familiar with the genre of K-POP, please explain the genre and tell us why you think it’s receiving so much love?

Monsta X: “Music is one and makes one. The biggest different point between K-POP and pop is language.”

Candie Anderson: Talk a bit about the choreography. How intense is the rehearsal?

Monsta X: “It is hard.”

 

 

How Their Music Resonates With Fans “Monbebes”

Candie Anderson: You’ve traveled the world performing for audiences in every language. Why do you think your music resonates with your fans?

Monsta X: “Because our song has a message to our fans who heard that song. Almost all of them are energetic and powerful. The music connects to our fans.”

 

How The Audience Reaction Affects Their Performance

Candie Anderson: How does the audience reaction affect the performance of the group?

Monsta X: “It affects 100%. Their reaction is crazy. If they are happy, we are happy. It’s like a reflection.

Candie Anderson: You have the best fans. They love you!

Monsta X: “My nickname is Vitamin, so I want to give them energy.

Candie Anderson: Are there any particular places or things you want to visit while you’re in the USA?

Monsta X: Grand Canyon.

When I was young I lived in Boston for three or four years, but there’s no opportunity to be back these days. I want to go back to Boston and see some squirrels because my village name was Chestnut Hill.”

Candie Anderson: What does each of you bring to the mix, and what is life like on the road?

Monsta X: “It’s still hard but fun. We enjoy the tour. We’re always in hotels. This is an important thing about our dream.

This is our job and work, but we don’t think this is business and work. This is our duty and we are singers in the entertaining business. We don’t think this is a big thing. It’s not a big work for us. It’s important to meet our fans.”

Candie Anderson: Where can people go to purchase your album and see you on tour?

Monsta X: “We had a concert in Chicago; and yesterday, in New York. Our next destination is going to be Atlanta, Dallas, Houston, San Francisco, L.A.

After that, we have concerts in South America -Brazil, Chile, Argentina.”
