A smile has the power to brighten anyone’s day. Sadly, there are countless children and young adults around the world who aren’t able to smile due to a cleft condition. According to the Operation Smile website, “Without surgery, nine in 10 children born with a cleft condition could die.” Lay’s potato chips and Operation Smile have teamed up for the Smile with Lay’s initiative. For every Lay’s Smile bag sold, Lay’s is making a donation to this amazing organization – up to $1 million dollars.
Renowned broadcaster, Kia Malone joined me for an interview this week to discuss how Lay’s is spreading smiles with Operation smile. She dished on this important nonprofit medical service organization; how this initiative works, and how you and your family can take part! You can even create your own potato chip bag with your smile (or your favorite smile). Please be sure to watch the video below for more information. I also transcribed it for you in case you prefer reading the Q & A.

Smile With Lay’s Initiative
Candie Anderson: Kia, Can you tell us about the Smile With Lay’s Initiative?
Kia Malone: “Lay’s believes that small actions like smiling have great big power to do something good around the world. Lay’s is on a mission to spread smiles by releasing these specially designed smile bags (please see video above for details) all featuring these great different smiles.
When you purchase one, Lay’s will then make a donation to Operation Smile, which is an international medical charity that is dedicated to improving the lives of children and young adults who suffer from cleft conditions.
How Operation Smile Is Helping Children Around The World
Candie Anderson: Operation Smile does incredible work (as you mentioned). Can you tell us more about it and how this campaign is helping children across the globe?
Kia Malone: “For 35 years Operation Smile has believed that if you give a surgery, you change a life forever, and that’s exactly what it wants to do. It always connects those families in need who can’t afford or don’t have access to these safe medical procedures. It’s connecting them with the doctors and medical facilities that they so desire and so need. Lay’s wants to put up to one million dollars in their coffers to help them out.”
Smile With Lay’s Specially Designed Bags
Candie Anderson: Where can people find these specially designed bags? How long will they be available for purchase?
Kia Malone: “They are at your local grocery store right now. They are available through April 7th, 2018.
Candie Anderson: I hear we can all get our own smile on a real bag. How can we create these?
Kia Malone: “This is so much fun! You go to Lays.com, upload your smile. You can learn more about the Operation Smile campaign and design your own specially marked Smile bag, then Lay’s ships it directly to you. It’s a perfect gift for anyone.”
How You Can Help Operation Smile
Candie Anderson: Do you have any additional tips or information that you would like to share with us?
Kia Malone: “I’ll tell you, for more information head to Lays.com. You can read more about the Operation Smile campaign, as well as create your own bag and see the photo gallery of all the other pictures that have been uploaded so far.”
