It’s no secret to those who know me, I absolutely love to shop, especially for gorgeous new jewelry. I love timeless pieces that also have meaning and sentimental value. For instance, when my beloved grandmother and best friend passed away on Halloween of last year, I knew I wanted to buy a new piece of jewelry to memorialize her. I fell in love with a beautiful hematite and diamond ring, and once I found out that hematite is said to give a sense of security and safety, I knew I had to have it as my amazing grandma always made me feel safe and secure.
As a jewelry lover, I was so excited when I was asked to interview New York Times bestselling author, experienced jeweler, historian and trained scientist Aja Raden on the book “GEM” (a beautiful reference book she wrote the foreword to). I love learning about gemstones, jewelry and the true meaning behind the beautiful gems.
“GEM goes beyond other reference books by featuring some of the rarest and most valuable stones and jewel-laden artifacts in history, describing in rich detail the stories and legends that surround them, from their journeys in the company of royalty, film stars, and thieves to the curse of the Hope Diamond and Ludwig II’s pocket watch. Gem concludes with an 80-page illustrated directory that provides all necessary comprehensive data to a variety of other rocks and nonprecious stones.” It is “published in association with the Smithsonian Institution and features a foreword by New York Times-bestselling author Aja Raden.”
GEM is such a gorgeous book! There are over 400 beautiful pages filled with everything you’ve ever wanted to know about jewelry, gemstones and more. If you have a jewelry lover on your list, this will make a great holiday gift!
During our interview New York Times bestselling author, experienced jeweler, historian and trained scientist Aja Raden discussed the cursed Hope diamond and how the “curse was flushed out and later popularized by Harry Winston”. She also mentioned how the value of gems have changed over time, what she’s looking forward to most in the world of gems and jewelry, how “the French revolution started over a diamond necklace” and much more! Please be sure to watch the video below to see my interview with Aja in its entirety.
For more information or to purchase Gem, Aja mentioned “you can purchase ‘GEM’ anywhere books are sold in the real world or online. It’s available now just in time for Christmas. For more information you can go to DK.com.”
