We all love to dine at our favorite restaurants, and of course try new restaurants that have come highly recommended to us by family, friends and the media, but as we all know eating out can be very tricky, especially if you’re trying to feed your children a healthy well balanced meal. Did you know that The National Restaurant Kids LiveWell Program is helping you do just that?
According to Restaurant.org “Kids LiveWell is marking its 4th birthday this month, as the first-of-its-kind voluntary industry program reaches over 42,000 restaurant locations nationwide committed to providing families with a growing selection of healthful children’s menu choices when dining out.” The restaurants that participate have committed to offering healthy well balanced meals that focus on fruit, vegetables, lean protein, whole grains, and low fat dairy. They also limit unhealthy fats, sugars and sodium.
Some of the restaurants that are participating are Applebee’s, Arby’s, Brookfields, Chilis, Cracker Barrel, IHOP, Mimis Cafe, IHOP, and my brother’s favorite restaurant when we’d go on vacation as kids- Sizzler! There are many more to choose from, please be sure to head over to the Restaurant.org site for details.
Most of us smartphone users rely on our trusty devices for everything, and Kids LiveWell is making it very easy for travelers to find healthy new restaurants in the area you’re staying in with their trusty Kids LiveWell app for both iPhone and Android phones. This great app will also give you menu options, which is very important especially with kids.
The app is available for download here: https://airmo.co/klw. The National Restaurant Association collaborated with Healthy Dining to create the Kids LiveWell program. You can also find participating restaurants and their menu options on Healthy Dining’s website:
You can join a virtual twitter birthday party to celebrate the program on Tuesday, July 28 from 1-3 pm ET. They will host from the @KidsLiveWell twitter handle with the hashtag #4yrsOfKidsLiveWell. If you’ve never participated in a Twitter party/Twitter chat, you’re in for a real treat! They’re a lot of fun, and you learn quite a bit. Be sure to head over there next Tuesday – comment and ask questions, you’ll be really glad you did.
