Saturday I was an emotional mess. I watched Billy Crystal’s film “Parental Guidance” for the first time and was so inspired by the character he portrayed (Fresno Grizzlies broadcaster, aspiring SF Giants announcer) and without giving too much away was able to motivate his entire family for the better. I’ve been on hooked on Billy all weekend, so when I heard he was going to be on the Today show this morning, I just couldn’t pass it up.
The hilarious comedian took selfies with Matt Lauer, Al Roker and Savannah Guthrie (at the request of Savannah), and dished on what he has next on his plate. According to the renowned comedian, actor, playwright, husband, father and grandfather, his famed play 700 Sundays will be hitting HBO on April 19th.
When Billy was asked how he felt about New York Mets second baseman Daniel Murphy (in the words of Matt Lauer) “get blasted” for taking two games off for the birth of his son, Billy had this to say “I thought he was totally right, he actually caught the baby as it came out.” “Listen, I was a Mr. Mom back when it wasn’t cool; I did that for a year and a half, and it was the best time of my life. It forever bonded us. This is a father with his child, so who is upset with him?” He went on to ask whether or not the Mets won the two games Daniel missed, and let’s just say…you’ve got to watch!
