Jennifer Lopez is one celebrity who always looks fabulous, whether she’s photographed on the red carpet, on television or in the pages of gossip magazines while out and about with her family. JLo has always been one to take fashion risks, knows what she likes and what looks good on her, which is crucial. Her stylists Rob Zangardi and Mariel Haenn joined me recently to discuss her top looks, how you can achieve them in the comfort of your own home, which spring trends to follow and how you too can be forever glowing!
Candace Rose: What are some of the hottest spring trends that we all must know about this season?
Rob Zangardi: “I think for Jennifer Lopez, as one of our clients, she wears so many different hats: she’s a mother, she’s an actress, she’s a musician, she’s a businesswoman and because of that we have the opportunity to sort of play with all these different types of styles.
The first one that we brought is from the Grammy’s a couple weeks ago. It’s one of our favorite looks just because we were trying to top her green Versace, which is impossible to do, it was such an iconic look. It’s hard to get her to wear black on the red carpet. One tip that we always do is try to push our girls to step out of their comfort zone, which we have to do for ourselves too.”
Mariel Haenn: “The great thing about that look was it still had an iconic feel. It wasn’t overstyled, she went really clean, bare and beautiful skin, and very natural makeup so it helped the dress stand out. You’re not going to see a lot of leg like that for everyday people, but you might see asymmetrical sleeves on spring trends.”
Candace Rose: Jennifer Lopez has such amazing style, what can we do to look almost as fab as she does?
Rob Zangardi: “Well, another big trend for spring is prints: graphic prints, animal prints, all kinds of prints in all different shapes and sizes. This one is from a look a while back when she was promoting her album. It’s fun to experiment with prints, and with this one we just belted a big shift dress. Wearing color, especially for spring is just a fun way to liven up your wardrobe.”
Mariel Haenn: “For that look also, she was wearing her hair down. A fun little tip that we like to share with people is before she walks out her accessories are the last part of her getting dressed, but the actual last step before she leaves is when she sprays her perfume. She has a new perfume out called ‘Forever Glowing’, and part of my favorite thing with this is the Glowing bottle. She glows, her perfume glows, everything glows…it’s kind of amazing.”
Candace Rose: What can we do to trick out our own wardrobe?
Rob Zangardi: “Mariel just mentioned accessories, that’s the easiest and most inexpensive way to sort of liven up any outfit- mixing metals, layering on lots of different rings which is very Jennifer Lopez, the hoop earrings and of course a fun colored shoe. Sometimes you don’t want to go too heavy on one particular trend so it might be fun to have a coral or a bright melon color for spring. But you don’t want to do it in a full outfit, so a pop of an accessory like that might be fun.”
Mariel Haenn: “The great thing also is for people who really appreciate Jennifer’s style, she has her own collection available at Kohl’s that really represents who she is and it kind of touches a little bit on all of her sides, like there’s the edgier more flashy pieces, there’s the more comfortable for moms on the go, which is this look that we have right here. Even though she’s wearing heels, this will still go well with flats. And if you want to take an easy printed dress and make it a little dressier, you just throw a blazer over it like she did here.”
Candace Rose: As you mentioned, Jennifer Lopez typically doesn’t wear black on the red carpet. Are there any trends that we should avoid? What are some trends that should be avoided?
Rob Zangardi: “I don’t think that necessarily the trend should be avoided, I think it’s about finding a trend that fits for you. Not all trends work for all of us, but it’s fun to experiment and why not try. Try not to wear too many trends at the same time.”
Mariel Haenn: “Never wear all the trends happening in one season at once. That for sure will never work.”
Candace Rose: Do you have any additional tips or information you’d like to share?
Mariel Haenn: “Just to find your own inner glowing. It’s not about being trendy, it’s just about finding the looks that work for you. You don’t have to follow trends.”
Candace Rose: Where can we go for more information?
Rob Zangardi: “On Kohls.com. The perfume and her collection are both available at Kohl’s stores.”
