Michelle MacLachlan, co-founder of LIFTLUXE- a site dedicated to men that prides itself as "everything you need for a more informed and sophisticated life"- joined me recently to discuss the latest and greatest fashion trends for men this summer and next season, and introduce us to their Celebrity Style Guide!
Candace Rose: Can you tell us about the Celebrity Style Guide?
Michelle MacLachlan: "The Celebrity Style Guide is a simple step by step, "How To" guide that helps men everywhere achieve certain iconic looks. We provide the essential tips and pieces to achieve certain celebrity looks whether its Hollywood Hip, the All American Look, The Classic and Timeless, the Structured Conservative or the Casual Cool. We help our readers achieve celebrity style while feeling manly about it!"
Candace Rose: Whose style are most men trying to emulate these days?
Michelle MacLachlan: "I don't necessarily think its a particular person, I really think most men are becoming more adventurous with style and are wanting to look good. They just need easy and convenient ways to do so. Who knows maybe we have Don Draper to thank for this revolution."
Candace Rose: What are some of the biggest trends for men this season?
Michelle MacLachlan: "The deconstructed soft tailoring look – unlined blazers that are incredibly easy to wear and they keep you cool from the summer heat."
Candace Rose: What would you advise the quintessential man to purchase for summer?
Michelle MacLachlan: "A deconstructed light weight summer blazer in a light solid color! If you could only purchase one item this summer, this is absolutely your essential. You can wear it to work, wear it on a date or wear it over a t-shirt for a day look. A huge misconception out there are that blazers are formal, this is simple not true, they are probably the most versatile piece you will ever own. It's like an Australian Shiraz, you can have it with anything!"
Candace Rose: Many men like to hold onto their clothing for a long time! What's one item you'd suggest men get rid of?
Michelle MacLachlan: "Bootcut jeans. Don't let your gym membership go to waist, enough."
Candace Rose: What is one trend you'd advise men to stay away from?
Michelle MacLachlan: "Clogs! No one has ever said ever on this planet 'Wow those are some really nice clogs! Where did you buy those?"
Candace Rose: And as far as celebrity style, you not only feature today's top trendsetters but styles of the past such as Richard Gere in "America Gigolo". What trends are making a return?
Michelle MacLachlan: "Anything classic and timeless along with a much more tailored look. The wool blazer, the denim button down chambray shirt and nice pair of slimmer fit khakis. It's not about the large fitting cargo pant anymore, it really is achieving that laid back relaxed look while still looking put together. We have iPhones now, we don't need 36 pockets on our pants."
Candace Rose: Do you have any additional tips or information you'd like to share?
Michelle MacLachlan: "Keep your eyes out for mustard colored pants this winter along with the tasseled loafers. I was in Italy back in January looking at the Fall/Winter collections and these were two iconic pieces that showed up everywhere. Mustard can sound scary, but trust me, give it a chance."
