Elizabeth Mayhew, Editor-in-Chief at Woman's Day magazine joined me on Friday morning to share healthy essentials for the new year, and discuss ways we can feed those in need just by purchasing Johnson & Johnson products.
Candace Rose: What are some changes we can make in order to be healthier in 2012?
Elizabeth Mayhew: "Well, listen, it's all about the choices you make and the products you buy- things you put on your skin to the things you eat to what and how you take care of your mouth. So one of the things that we want you to know about is there's a special booklet in your newspaper coming this weekend- January 8th- where there is over $145 worth of coupons that you can use to keep you and your family healthy. And what's even better is if you redeem coupons by January 15th, the Johnson & Johnson Family Consumer Companies is going to donate one meal to feed AMerica, so that's up to one million people who are going to be fed based on your using coupons."
Candace Rose: Oh that's wonderful.
Elizabeth Mayhew: "Yeah, it is a great thing, so to just point you off on some of the things that are going to be feature in the coupon booklets- it's called 'The Essentials' and you can also find the coupons at HealthyEssentials.com. But lets start off many of us have made the commitment to lose weight, well, Splenda's great to help you do that. It's a great sugar substitute but what Splenda's done is they've added other things to the sweetener you pour it in your coffee and you have the choice of getting either vitamin B, fiber or antioxidants, so you get the sweetness plus a little boost of something else.
Aveeno skincare- they have a new line 'Positively Radiant' and what's great is not only did they add an SPF to the product but it also has a special patented total soy complex that literally visibly helps transform dull tired skin to make it bright and more radiant.
Neutrogena, I love their new wipes (their towelettes) that remove makeup; up to 99% of the makeup comes off in one usage. What's great is it doesn't leave a residue, so you don't have to wash your face at all, so it's perfect for when you get in bed and you're tired and you don't feel like getting up to do your whole regime.
Oral care is super important. I don't think people realize how indicative a healthy mouth is for healthy bodies, so you have to brush, you have to floss. New year is a great time to get a new toothbrush but also to start using Listerine. Listerine kills a lot of the germs that are left even after brushing, so it's going to help prevent gingivitis and plaques, so really great for oral care.
And then in terms of something fun, I love Band-Aid has paired up with the designer, Cynthia Rowley to create really fun patterned Band-Aids. There are seven different designs, lots of them in a box, so you can pick whichever Band-Aid either suits your mood or look great with the outfit you're wearing.
And lastly you don't want to forget the babies in your house. Johnson's baby lotion is a staple in my house. I started buying it when my daughter was very young, now she's in high school and I still buy it, mostly because I love the smell. It's gentle and mild and really helps nourish your skin.
So these are just some of the products you're going to find coupons for in the Healthy Essentials booklet or online at HealthyEssentials.com. And don't forget for every coupon you redeem by January 15th, you are going to feed someone hungry in America through the 'Feeding America' program."
Candace Rose: Thank you, Elizabeth. Do you have any additional tips or information you'd like to share?
Elizabeth Mayhew: "Just go to HealthyEssentials.com and again, make sure by January 15th, just so you can help somebody. It's a great way, you're saving money, you're buying things that are good for you and your family, and you're doing good for others."
