Images: Justin Bieber, Taylor Swift & Celeb Designers Star in Macy’s “Another Miracle On 34th Street”

Growing up in a house where we decorated for Christmas on October 31 was always fun for me, and don’t get me started on picking out the perfect Noble Fir Christmas tree the day after Thanksgiving. This morning while getting ready to head to the polls I was pleasantly surprised to hear Elvis having a “Blue Christmas” and Sinatra crooning Christmas carols on my satellite radio, even though it’s a mild 82 degrees with blue skies and birds chirping as thought it’s spring.

If you love Christmas as much as I do, and the original “Miracle On 34th Street” you won’t want to miss out on Macy’s “Another Miracle On 34th Street” which will feature the movie’s original Kris Kringle back at Herald Square via the power of technology, interacting with Macy’s star designers including Justin Bieber, Tommy Hilfiger, Marcus Samuelsson, Carlos Santana, Martha Stewart, Taylor Swift, and Donald Trump. According to Businesswire “Taking place on his first day back at Macy’s Herald Square, Kringle is greeted by an amused Harold and Martha Stewart. In a hurry to see Mr. Macy, Kringle is seemingly unaware of his modern day surroundings. After his introduction to the incredulous staff, Kringle once again finds himself in familiar territory as the stars seek proof that he is indeed the real Santa Claus, especially the skeptical Donald Trump. Proving his credentials as the real jolly old elf, the tide soon changes as the stars try to secure their place on the nice list with Justin Bieber leading the way.”

“’Miracle on 34th Street’ has been a defining moment in Macy’s storied history since the film first delighted audiences in 1947,” said Martine Reardon, Macy’s chief marketing officer. “For decades, we have cherished and embraced the legacy of this wonderful film which along with our incredible Thanksgiving Day Parade has truly helped define the holiday season. Thanks to our special partnership with Twentieth Century Fox, we are able to bring the magic of Miracle to new audiences, in a unique, funny and heartwarming spot that will have millions more believing in the spirit of the season.”

Best of New York Fashion Week Day 1 + Day 2: BCBGMAXAZRIA, Nicole Miller, Parkchoonmoo and CZAR by Cesar Galindo

Mercedes Benz Fashion Week (New York Fashion Week) kicked off with a bang on September 6, 2012 in New York City’s Lincoln Center, and day two certainly did not disappoint either. Hollywood’s elite, fashion editors and bloggers alike were treated to stunning runway shows, and unfortunate bouts with rain and wind. But since when has terrible weather forced a fashionista from taking in a day of fashion? Not a chance! Word on the street is color-blocking is back in a maaajor (said in my best Rachel Zoe voice) way for spring 2013, and according to renowned fashion designer Cynthia Rowley mint is the “it” color for spring. So tell me, are you ready for spring 2013?

Here are a few great shots NYFW Day 1 +2!

ALEXA FOR MEN: THE FIRST MEN’S LUXURY FASHION BROADSHEET FROM THE NEW YORK POST; FREE IN TODAY’S PAPER

***
Featuring “Boardwalk Empire’s” Vincent Piazza; Michael Bastian’s Next-Generation Prep; Fashion Forward Athletic Gear; and New Designers to Watch

New York, NY (August 29, 2012) – The first edition of Alexa for Men, the high-end men’s fashion broadsheet free inside the New York Post, hit newsstands today.  Alexa for Men will also offer exclusive daily Editor’s Choice content on its website, http://www.nypost.com/alexa.

“Two years ago we launched Alexa to provide international fashion news and the latest designer goods to the sophisticated New York women who read the New York Post,” said Serena French, Editor, Alexa and Alexa for Men. “We’re thrilled to now offer the same experience for our discerning male readers with Alexa for Men, including fashion coverage from around the world, fall runway trends, celebrity style, luxury products and industry news.”

Among the highlights:

Cover model Vincent Piazza (Boardwalk Empire)

Italian-American actor and rising star Vincent Piazza, who portrays a young “Lucky” Luciano in the hit HBO series Boardwalk Empire, models dapper tweeds and double-breasted suits and talks exclusively to Alexa for Men about his fascination with gangsters, the impact the role has had on his personal style, the show’s authenticity, and his famous romance.

  • On the show’s impact on his personal style: “I learned how things fit. The care that these guys went through. Off-the-rack wasn’t prevalent like it is today. If you got a suit you were going to the tailor to get the neck and shoulders right. Now when I buy a suit or collared shirt I’m really, ‘Nah, this hangs a bit.’”

  • About his hesitance to be stereotyped as an Italian-American actor playing mobsters: “I say I don’t wanna be a stereotype as I eat pasta and sausage,” he says, but admits that the role “was too good to pass up” and shares the story of what got him a reading with Martin Scorsese and HBO: “I thought I’d like to do a monologue of a gangster talking to his son. I learned the stories and asked a buddy to film it. I put on a suit and to this make-believe kid off-screen, I went into this whole spiel. I gave it to my agent.”

  • On the sometimes intimate research he does to maintain the character and the show’s authenticity, including the agonizing treatment for gonorrhea his character Luciano underwent: “It was like the male giving birth.”

  • He demurs when asked about his much-scrutinized relationship with Ashlee Simpson, who he has been dating since 2011, but says: “We’re in a very happy place.”

In Threads, Alexa for Men’s fashion gossip column by Stephanie Smith:

  • Already an accomplished fashion designer and film director, sources say Tom Ford is setting his sights on the world of politics as he organizes a fundraiser for President Obama alongside Anna Wintour and Gwyneth Paltrow. He already has a history with First Lady Michelle Obama, who wore a Ford gown to Buckingham Palace last year.

  • The U.S. Men’s Olympic swimming team is putting their toes in the fashion waters. While Olympian Ryan Lochte contemplates designing a clothing line, his teammate Cullen Jones is looking to add a denim clothing line to his resume after experiencing years of difficulty finding well-fitted jeans for his 6’5” frame.

  • Dwyane Wade, the fashion-forward Miami Heat player, will take a break from shooting hoops to handpick apparel for GiltMan.com. A friend tells Alexa for Men that Wade wears “funky socks every day, because he feels socks reflect his mood” – perhaps a hint of what shoppers can expect September 4?

Michael Bastian: King of Next-Generation Prep

  • For designs for his upcoming fall collection, Michael Bastian tells Alexa for Men that he pictured his client as a “guy like me” who has “gotten to where he is a designer customer, but he’s not ready to get into this luxury world.”

  • He credits a lack of basic, quality pieces in the marketplace as the inspiration to strike out on his own as a designer: “We were always looking for a solid chino, a five-pocket cord and a raincoat,” says Bastian. “And we were dying for the perfect cashmere crew neck that was lightweight but still fluffy and had a good, sexy fit.”

Young Designers to Watch

The reinvention of Kenzo by Opening Ceremony duo Humberto Leon and Carol Lim, SIR New York, Tim Coppens, and Public School are highlighted as designers to watch in a season of impressive menswear debuts.

The Sports Page

A guide to fashionable athletic gear straddling the line between the stylish and the practical features a Tommy Hilfiger cable cricket sweater, Panerai’s Submersible 1950 3 Days Automatic Titanio Diving Watch, and a DSQUARED2 sweat suit, and other irresistible gear for sports fans and fashion enthusiasts alike.

Celebrity Interview: David Tutera of My Fair Wedding on Planning A Royal Wedding On A Budget

I recently had the chance to speak with highly renowned party planner and host of My Fair Wedding on WE tv, David Tutera to discuss the royal wedding and offer tips on how everyday brides on a budget can plan the wedding of their dreams!

David_n_brides_lgDavid Tutera – DavidTutera.com

Candace Rose: With the royal wedding just a day away, what can brides on a budget do to ensure that their special day is spectacular?

David Tutera: "I think the biggest question is what is your budget? I think many girls worry that they don't have enough money to spend on their wedding to make it special. I'm hoping I can help, I've been doing this for several years and I really wanted to focus on finding ways to make it unique and memorable and I want to show you something great – I created a line together with Sears that is pretty spectacular. It's four collections, four very different collections based upon style, because to me every girl has a different sense of style as a bride. Go into Sears, we're going to help you, walk you through the process of understanding who you are as a bride. Everything here not only is beautiful to select but also affordable, so you feel like royalty without having a high budget to spend. You know the phrase 'something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue?' We'll I've got something blue for you, not towards the royal wedding, but inside every one of my rings is a genuine sapphire stone, so now you've got something blue to feel like you've got a little bit of royalty. It's affordable but most importantly it's unique, which is important."

Rings available for purchase at Sears.com

CR: What are the latest trends in bridal wear and accessories?

DT: "Well, accessorizing your wedding is so important and again here's a budget friendly bit of advice, it's what you do and how you execute your detail. Telling your story, your personality as a bride is crucial to making your wedding different. I created a craft line at Jo-Ann's crafts because I wanted girls to be able to go in, find ways to execute their wedding with uniqueness from your bouquet to your invitations; to even the back of your shoes; to your favors; to your tabletop accessories. These are ways to have fun, create a statement and feel really unique and special. I worry that with the royal wedding, girls are going to look at this as 'oh my gosh I don't have enough money to do the things that I want to do, that's why with Sears and Jo-Ann's, I've found ways to give them affordability, give them style with not having to spend a lot of money. That to me is important. It isn't about how much you spend, it's how you focus your attention and how you create detail."

Catbanner_davidtuteraDavid Tutera – JoAnn.com

CR: What are the first steps brides should take when it comes to planning their wedding?

DT: "Well, one of the very first steps they need to do, they need to treat this more like a puzzle- figure out the elements by realizing how much money you have to spend, then you execute it by figuring out how many guests you can afford to invite, then you take the puzzle and then you figure out all the pieces of the puzzle and how much each vendor is going to cost and then you can hire your vendors based upon what's affordable to you. A lot of girls that get engaged, they run to the computer and they start ordering things that they don't necessarily need. You can go to Sears.com or Joann.com and find these details but don't put the cart before the horse. You need the ring first before you begin the plans."

CR: Is there one thing brides should splurge on or can everything be done on a budget?

DT: "Everything can be done on a budget, it's a matter of executing the budget for what you need. Obviously food is going to cost more money than favors, obviously the entertainment will cost more money than the cake but you need to educate yourself first; but understand what things will wind up costing you before you move forward."

CR: Where can we go for more information?

DT: "You can go to Sears.com or in stores at Sears or in store at Jo-Ann's or JoAnn.com and have fun, enjoy the process, find wonderful sparkle on your finger and great details at your wedding and I promise you something – all girls can feel like a royal princess."
