Interview: Last Minute Gifts for Everyone On Your List with The Gift Insider’s Lindsay Roberts

Gift expert Lindsay Roberts of The Gift Insider joined me yesterday to dish on some of her favorite last minute gifts for everyone on your list! If you’re looking for a fabulous gift for the kid in your life, the gal who has everything, the tech lover and so many more, Lindsay has you covered!

The Gift Insider's Lindsay Roberts shares the top last minute gifts for everyone on your list!

The Gift Insider’s Lindsay Roberts shares the top last minute gifts for everyone on your list!

Candace Rose: With the holidays less than a week away do you have any gift ideas for those of us who’ve waited until the last minute?

Lindsay Roberts: “Yes. So you definitely don’t have much time, but I have some gifts and tips to help you out. One big thing is subscription boxes. It’s a huge trend. It’s kind of like the take on the month gifts. So items like BIRCHBOX are great. They send monthly samples. What you can do is print a quick e-gift certificate online and the it will come to them each month, so it doesn’t appear last minute.

Birchbox is a great gift for the beauty enthusiast in your life.

Birchbox is a great gift for the beauty enthusiast in your life.

Another way to go is with treats or edibles because it can really be for anyone so you can stock up a few days before and give to anyone. We recommend going a little unique, so we recommend the largest gummy bear of all time, we have some huge Rice Krispies treats and also some ways to do some hostess gifts. If you want to just add in a bottle of wine to a trendy and cool wine tote, that’s a perfect way to do it.”

Candace Rose: And gadgets, gifts and accessories are always popular. Are there any that you recommend?

Lindsay Roberts: “So many people are giving smartphones and cellphones this year, that we really recommend to make sure you’re insuring these smartphones. There are over 80 million phones that are lost, stolen or damaged each year, so you want to make sure you’re doing it right at holiday time. Asurion notes that you only have 30 days after your phone is activated to insure your device. If you don’t have insurance, replacing your phone can be over $600 so you don’t need that either.

Another great mobile gift is from Cricket Wireless and what they have is perfect for music lover and teens is their muve music, so you have unlimited music downloads built into your no contract wireless plan. Their plans start at just $50, and like I said they’re all no contract. You never have to pay per song and you have millions of songs at your fingertips on their most popular phones like the HTC One V. It’s also a download first service, you can have your music at any time with no buffering or skipping.

We also have a great recommendation if you have no idea what to get someone or if you know they might prefer money or something they really want. Popmoney is a company that lets you send money bank account to bank account online. They’ll even do an eGreeting, and it’s perfect all you need is their cellphone number or their email address and you can send it directly to them. So it’s perfect for those last minute gifts.”

Candace Rose: Do you have any out of the box gift suggestions for kids?

Lindsay Roberts: “We’re all about trying to get kids into a new hobby and do something fun, active outside. Don’t give them the same video games or toys. Tennis is really a great sport for kids. You can literally do it anywhere, and they’re starting to size it just right for kids as well. So they have smaller tennis rackets, they have lighter balls and you can play anywhere. The United States Tennis Association is trying to get more kids into the sport so they’re offering free memberships for kids 10 and younger.”

The United States Tennis Association is trying to encourage more kids to get involved in the sport of tennis so they're giving free memberships to kids 10 and under. Talk about a great gift!

Candace Rose: We’ve all had that moment when we get a gift from someone we haven’t gotten a gift for. How should we handle that situation?

Lindsay Roberts: “Well, we recommend tackling that situation before it happens so have an emergency present bin like to call it. So have some gender neutral prepackaged goods- things like chocolates, things like lotions, things that you can quickly give to anyone on your list. If the situation does come up where you don’t have something we recommend to graciously accept the gift. Have some handwritten notes that you can quickly, immediately send a thank you note. But just make sure to not awkwardly stumble through a conversation and insincerely tell them that their gift is in the mail or something like that, just thank them appropriately.”

Candace Rose: Do you have any additional tips or information you’d like to share?

Lindsay Roberts: “You can find more info on all these gifts at MoreTipsForYou.com, and then on my website TheGiftInsider.com. We have lots of tips and advice, and creative out of the box ideas on there.

Actress Brooklyn Decker Covers Women’s Health Magazine in May 2012!

Model turned actress Brooklyn Decker is covering Women's Health magazine in May and dishing everything from her relationship with tennis star husband Andy Roddick, to how she stays fit, to her role in the new movie "Battleship" and the women she looks up to in the industry!

Brooklyn on her husband, Andy Roddick…

“Being married to Andy has given me a new appreciation for my body. He’s taught me that it’s not how thin you are that matters. It’s how your body performs, how it endures wear and tear.”

Brooklyn on working out with husband Andy Roddick…

“One day when we were in London, Andy took me to a track behind a high school. We did a kind of hopscotch down the track, more drills over hurdles, and then shuttle runs.”

Brooklyn on trying to learn tennis from husband, Andy Roddick…

“He tried to give me a lesson once, and I ended up hitting all the tennis balls over the fence and smashing my racket because I was so frustrated. I told him, ‘You don’t teach me how to play tennis, and I won’t teach you how to model in a bathing suit.’ And so far, it’s worked.”

Brooklyn on the importance of exercising even when she is tired…

“If I stop wanting to work out, then I’m going to be in some serious trouble.”

Brooklyn on her food philosophy…

“I try not to think about foods that are too fattening or too sugary. I always think about why it’s important to eat the best foods. By not obsessing over the bad, I tend to stick with the good.”

Brooklyn on her eating habits…

[I eat] like a 12-year-old.”

Brooklyn on challenging herself…

“My director on Battleship, Peter Berg, said that as much as I work out, he wanted me to be strong. He took me to a boxing gym in Santa Monica. After six or seven minutes of sparring, I was completely winded. But I was also exhilarated because it was a new workout that I had never before experienced. And it’s one of the best deals you’ll find. This place charges around $15 for an hour. You learn how to punch, and I promise, you and your muscles will never forget it.”

Brooklyn on challenging herself…

“I love working my butt off to prove I can do something new. If I don’t keep looking for challenges, life gets sort of dull.”

Brooklyn on dancing as exercise…

“Yesterday I returned from a trip to Australia and Munich, so I resorted to my secret, sure-fire method to get my body moving again. I blasted three Taylor Swift songs as loud as I could and started running in place and doing some stupid booty dancing. Sometimes I’ll watch a music video of a great performer like Beyoncé and try to follow her choreography. Yeah, maybe I look ridiculous, but dancing gets your energy up a lot better than running on a treadmill or pedaling a stationary bike.”

Brooklyn on kayaking…

“Whenever I’m near a body of water, I love to rent a kayak. It’s easy to use, and you not only get a cardio workout but also do a vigorous upper body workout, pushing and pulling your paddle through the water. And let’s face it: The view is always a lot better than the one you can get in a gym.”

Brooklyn on working out with friends…

“When I was a bridesmaid for my best friend’s wedding in North Carolina, the two of us and the other bridesmaids hired a Pilates instructor to do a private class for us the morning of the wedding. We were able to play our favorite music and laugh and talk while working out. It was the perfect way to start a day, and ever since I’ve tried to come up with workouts that I can do with my girlfriends.”

Brooklyn on her favorite yoga move…

“One of my favorite moves is to lie on the ground on my back, a yoga block propped under my lower back, and then pull my legs up while spreading out my knees, making my legs look just like a butterfly. The move opens up my hips and stretches my back at the same time.”

Brooklyn on making new friends through exercise, like her Battleship costar, Taylor Kitsch…

“You create a bonding experience that you never would have had. My hike with Taylor Kitsch [her love interest inBattleship] was very strenuous, and we needed ropes to get to the top of the summit. But when we were finished, we knew each other a lot better than if we had just had the usual dinner and drinks night. Plus, no matter how much time you spend in the weight room, you simply can’t get a better workout for your legs than when you go for a long hike.”

Brooklyn on fitting in her core workouts throughout the day…

“Seriously, I will drop to the floor and do a plank anywhere, anytime—in my kitchen, next to my bed, in a hotel room. Straight planks on my elbows or hands and then the all-important side planks and side plank crunches.”

Brooklyn on girl crushes…

“When I see a woman who’s overcome obstacles, who’s done something with her life, I want to say to her, ‘Wow, you’re cool. Your career is awesome, and I’d love to hang out with you.’ It’s a respect thing.”

Brooklyn on Kristen Wiig…

“Her sense of humor is something we can all relate to. She’s like the inner soul of every girl alive. She doesn’t care about preserving her beauty on camera—and she is very beautiful.  She’s very real.”

Brooklyn on Lana Del Rey…

“She has such an individual singing style—a kind of smoky, old-school jazzy voice combined with a hip-hop vibe. It’s music I’ve never really heard before.”

Brooklyn on Erin Andrews…

“You have to love a beautiful woman who knocks down all the stereotypes and becomes one of the country’s best sportscasters. She had to fight for years to be taken seriously, and she did it without once losing her sense of humor or her great enthusiasm.”

Brooklyn on Marisa Miller…

“When I was a rookie in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue, Marisa had already been in it for years. But unlike a lot of models who get very territorial, Marisa rooted for the new girls. If there was a job she couldn’t do, she’d pass it on to me. That’s real grace.”

Brooklyn on Charlize Theron…

“Well, duh. It’s not just her breathtaking beauty that stuns me, it’s her ability to act completely against type, to defy everyone’s expectations, and to go for roles that she just finds interesting, not because an agent or manager tells her the parts will be good for her career.”

The May 2012 issue hits newsstands on April 17th  and you can see excerpts of Brooklyn's interview with Women's Health along with online exclusives here:  http://www.womenshealthmag.com/brooklyn
