Reality TV star and successful business owner Bill Rancic joined Candace Rose for an interview to dish on the secret to starting a successful small business, the importance of technology and National Mom and Pop Business Owners Day.

Reality TV star and successful business owner Bill Rancic joined Candace Rose for an interview to dish on the secret to starting a successful small business, the importance of technology and National Mom and Pop Business Owners Day.

Candace Rose: What’s the secret to starting a successful small business?

Bill Rancic: “Well, I think first and foremost you have to be prepared to work hard, to take a lot of risk, but to manage that risk and convert that risk into success, I think that’s very important.  If you decide to go for it and to start that business, I have tips that I think every business to embrace:

  1. You’ve got to go mobile. In this day and age, I say ‘You’ve got to fish where the fish are’. Everyone today is on their smartphone or on their tablets. As a business owner you’ve got to be there. You’ve got to be advertising on the mobile devices, you’ve got to have apps, you’ve got to have a great website, you’ve got to make it very easy for your customer to do business with you. I think that’s critical.
  2. Secondly, you’ve got to protect your data. With all the security breaches that are happening – as you see on the news everyday, companies are getting breached left in right – it’s important that small businesses take the proper precautions to protect their data. Today it’s more affordable than ever to back up all your data online. It’s easy to get password protection on all of your devices.
  3. It’s about being proactive and training your employees on what to look for so they don’t fall into the traps that a lot of people fall into when they get breached.
  4. Check your ego at the door. Don’t be a ‘know it all’. I think so many small business owners, they let their egos interfere and that stunts their growth. It’s important to network, it’s important to partner with the right people. It’s important to get advice from those that have done it before.

One thing that I’ve done with AT&T is  – they’ve created a website: It’s a forum designed specifically for small business owners to get advice, to network, to learn, to see what’s out there that’s new and that’s fresh, and I think it’s a great resource.”

Candace Rose: What are some of the most common mistakes that entrepreneurs make when they start a new business?

Bill Rancic: “Well, I think first and foremost they try to do everything on their own, and I always say if you want to be a successful small business, you’ve got to be the conductor of an orchestra. When you think about the conductor of an orchestra, the conductor has all these expert musicians in his or her pit, and they play their instruments to absolute perfection. The conductor himself or herself is not an expert at playing each and every one of those instruments but he gets them all playing in harmony with one another, and that’s what it’s about as a small business owner. You’ve got to create that music. Don’t try to play every instrument yourself because if you do the music won’t sound so good.”

Candace Rose: Can you tell us about National Mom and Pop Business Owners Day?

Bill Rancic: “Well, that’s what we’re doing here. We’re in a mom and pop business in Chicago, it’s called A Baker’s Tale. I’ve teamed up with the folks at AT&T, we’re just trying to shine a spotlight on the small businesses in America and letting people know they’re a vital part of our society. They are so important to our communities. Go out this weekend, spend some money at a local mom and pop business and thank them for what they’ve done because they’re employing more people than any other sector of business out there, they’re revitalizing Main Street, they’re sponsoring the local soccer, football and baseball teams and we just want to celebrate what they’ve done.”

Candace Rose: What does every business need to remain on top and competitive?

Bill Rancic: “Well, they need to be agile and that’s part of my success. I’m not going to stay in my comfort zone, I’m going to realize that the world is changing around me and I need to embrace that change. I need to adapt and react and see what’s happening if I want to stay relevant and stay competitive. I think where you really fall into trouble is when you get complacent and you say ‘I’ve been doing this for the last 10 years and it’s worked, I’m going to keep doing what I’ve been doing.’ Instead of saying ‘Wait a minute, maybe there’s a better idea. Maybe there’s a new app that I could use. Maybe there’s a new way to advertise online to reach my customers and drive them to my business from anywhere in the country. That’s where you stay successful.”

Candace Rose: How can those of us who are business owners stay productive when we’re on the go?

Bill Rancic: “Well, here’s a great example, A Baker’s Tale. She can run this business from anywhere in the world. With all the apps that are out there today, you can monitor your cameras in the store, you can monitor the cash register, you can turn the heat on, the lights on – you can do just about anything from your mobile device. It’s more affordable today than it’s ever been and it’s more accessible today than it’s ever been.”

Candace Rose: Speaking of tech apps, are there any you recommend for small business owners/entrepreneurs?

Bill Rancic: “Oh my goodness, there are so many apps that you can have – you can manage your fleet from anywhere in the world, so if you’re a business that has trucks or cars, it’s a great way to manage a fleet and cut down on unnecessary mileage. You can take mobile payment from literally out in the field which I think is very effective. It helps improve cash flow, it cuts down on collections. There are so many great apps out there I couldn’t just pick one.”

Candace Rose: Do you have any additional tips or information you’d like to share with us?

Bill Rancic: “Well, I just want to encourage anyone who is thinking of starting a business or who is a small business owner to go to the online resource: It’s a free resource that I think is really helpful to small business owners.”

Giuliana and Bill Rancic Share Travel Tips And Talk Love of Coffee and How It Keeps Them Productive – Interview

Do you rely on coffee to help you get through your day? Believe it or not, celebs do too. Giuliana and Bill Rancic have to be two of the busiest celebrities on the planet – they have a hit reality show, an active adorable toddler (Duke Rancic) who keeps them on their toes, and Giuliana has a fashion line, is a tv host on E! and also has a new line of wine. Do you ever wonder how they’re always so put together and productive? Wouldn’t you like to have their energy? Well, now you can! Giuliana and Bill Rancic were kind enough to join me for an interview recently to dish on their love of coffee (especially Nescafe with Coffee-Mate) their secret to staying so productive, and they also shared their best travel tips!

Bill and Giuliana Rancic joined Candace Rose for an interview to discuss their love of Nescafe with Coffeemate coffee and how it makes them more productive, and they also shared some of their top travel tips!

Bill and Giuliana Rancic joined Candace Rose for an interview to discuss their love of Nescafe with Coffee-Mate coffee and how it makes them more productive, and they also shared some of their top travel tips!

Candace Rose: As busy parents on the go, TV personalities…and Giuliana, you have a new line of wine – how do you both balance it all?

Bill Rancic: “Well, we try to make sure that our days are as efficient and effective as possible, and really we start our mornings the night before. One of the tips that we always tell people is before you go to bed at night, make a list of everything you need to do the next day, so when you wake up in the morning it’s a no-brainer. You can hit the ground running, you know exactly what you need to accomplish that day and your days are typically very, very efficient.”

Giuliana Rancic: “I’m a fashion girl like I’m sure a lot of people who are watching right now. What I do instead of laying out the whole outfit the night before (which is a little frustrating every night) I just put out one key piece. So if it’s casual Friday the next day, maybe a pair of jeans and then I work the outfit around the jeans the next morning; or if I just got a great pair of shoes that weekend I’ll put those out and work my outfit around those shoes the next day. Those are just little tips to make the most of your morning and make your morning a little less hectic.”

Candace Rose: What is a typical morning like in the Rancic house, especially with a baby?

Bill Rancic: “It starts pretty early.”

Giuliana Rancic: “We used to wake up later! What we do is – Duke wakes up around 6:30 and 7, so Bill and I will wake up 15 minutes before Duke just so we can have that time together and bond as a couple. Bill makes the coffee in the family. I understand why he used to brag because it took some time to make the pot of coffee and get my creamer just right, but now there’s a new product out that we’re super excited about called Nescafe with Coffee-Mate. I don’t know about you but I love creamer, I love Coffee-Mate. Literally they’ve combined the two – coffee and Coffee-Mate in one.”

Bill Rancic: “Just when you thought coffee couldn’t get any better.”

Giuliana Rancic: “What you do is you literally add hot water and you’re done. It takes one minute to make it.”

Bill Rancic: “It makes my job much easier and it’s right on every time. She’s a tough critic and she loves my coffee.”

Candace Rose: You mentioned the importance of coffee in your morning routine. How many cups of coffee do you normally have and how do you take it?

Giuliana Rancic: “Normally I have about two cups of coffee. I like my coffee sweeter, so I love creamer, I love Coffeemate. What I do is I take my mug, first put the creamer in and then put the coffee on top. Now we don’t  have to do that anymore because it’s so easy to do. It’s instant. You literally just take the Nescafe with Coffee-Mate.”

Bill Rancic: “She does the French Vanilla flavored and I usually do the Hazelnut.”

Giuliana Rancic: “You just put in two tablespoons of it, add water and you are good to go…it’s all in one!”

Candace Rose: You both just got back from Australia, in fact. What’s the secret to being productive?

Bill Rancic: “Well, again, you’ve got to be as efficient as you can in your planning. We make wise use – something my dad used to say is ‘Make wise use of your leisure time’. On the flights we get a lot of work done. We plan out our day the night before. Giuliana, like she said, lays out her outfit the night before…so you really can minimize your downtime. In the morning you don’t have to think about what you’re going to do, you know exactly what you need to do that day.”

Giuliana Rancic: “We don’t check bags in.”

Bill Rancic: “We don’t check bags when we travel, which makes life a lot easier. We kind of take control of our destiny that way so we’re not sitting around the baggage carousel waiting or praying that they didn’t lose our luggage. It’s all about the planning. ”

Candace Rose: Do you have any additional tips or information you’d like to share with us?

Giuliana Rancic: “You probably have a lot of people who tune in and watch you and read your blog who travel. Something that I love doing now that I’ve learned from flight attendants is roll your clothes. As Bill was saying, we don’t check in our bags, but I still love clothes and shoes. So what I do is I have my one carryon and all of my clothes are rolled, that way I can get a lot more in there. All clothes are in my carryon bag and then I bring a tote bag that’s just shoes and any extra things like magazines, and then I’ll put a little handbag in there. That way I’m not bringing three items on (you can only bring two). I’ll have the one tote that’s miscellaneous items and shoes, and then other one with just clothes, and that works out.”

Bill Rancic: “Also when you’re planning your trips, try to avoid connections because when there’s connections involved typically that’s where if you run into a delay, you missed the connection and you’re stuck somewhere overnight you don’t want to be. If you can avoid connections at all costs, you try to do that.”

Candace Rose: Thanks for the great tips! Where can we go for more information?

Bill Rancic: “Well, one thing that we want to share with everyone is we’re offering a coupon for the Nescafe with Coffee-Mate. People can go to, so they can get the coupon and enjoy the product as much as we do.”

Bill Rancic Shares Small Business Holiday Shopping Advice

Small businesses are such an important part of our local communities. Not only do they provide services we love, and products we adore;  but are vital across the board. According to entrepreneur, best selling author and “Giuliana & Bill” star, Bill Rancic, local small businesses are crucial and are “the ones that are revitalizing main street.” Bill was kind enough to join me recently to share marketing and gift giving tips for small businesses, and discuss Small Business Saturday and how you can contribute!

Entrepreneur, “Giuliana & Bill” star, and best selling author, Bill Rancic shares holiday shopping advice for local small businesses!

Candace Rose: How important are local independent businesses to communities?

Bill Rancic: “They’re vital. Small businesses are really the ones that are revitalizing main street. They’re hiring people who live in the community. They’re sponsoring the local soccer and baseball and football teams. It’s important that this holiday season we recognize them and we celebrate them and we’re really conscious of where we’re spending our dollars.”

Candace Rose: Do you have any marketing tips for small businesses this holiday season?

Bill Rancic: “Absolutely. I’ve partnered with AT&T and we’re trying to give small businesses some good advice, and I’ve got three quick tips for everybody!

1) If you’re a small business, embrace that notion. You’re able to do things that the big business can’t, and provide customer service like no one else. You can establish ties in the community, you can work with the local TV and radio stations to help promote your business. Use that as a positive rather than a negative.

2) Secondly, embrace technology. By doing that, you have to go social. I have a father-in-law, he’s 75 and he just opened up a men’s clothing store in D.C., he’s on Twitter, he’s on Facebook. He’s on LinkedIn. He’s connecting with his customers in ways he never thought was possible.

3) Thirdly, you’ve got to go mobile. This holiday season, we are going to spend more money online for holiday gifts than we’ve ever spent before. So if you’re a small business owner, make sure your website is mobile friendly. Make sure you can take payments easily. You want to make it as easy as possible for customers to utilize your services and buy your products.”

Candace Rose: Do you have any suggestions when it comes to gift giving?

Bill Rancic: “Well, you’ve got to be creative, and that’s the great thing about about a small business. Typically, they’re going to offer you products that you can’t find at the big box store. They’re able to source out locally owned- whether it’s toys or crafts or food items that you can get. Talk to the business owner. Just because it’s not on the shelf, doesn’t mean they can’t do it. As a small business owner, we’re very agile and we want to make our customers are happy, and we’re able to do things that the big stores won’t do.”

Candace Rose: Can you tell us about the annual Small Business Saturday initiative?

Bill Rancic: “This is something that’s been going on for a handful of years now. It’s really the Saturday to recognize small businesses to encourage people to spend their money at that small business. It’s something that’s done very well. Small businesses have done well, but more importantly we’ve been able to educate consumers and let them know the value of a small business owner. Knowledge is power, and when they realize how valuable those dollars are to that small business and to their community, they’re more likely to continue to visit that small business owner.”

Candace Rose: Well, thank you so much, Bill…we appreciate it. Where can we go for more information?

Bill Rancic: “You can go to”

Celebrity Interview: Bill Rancic Talks Travel, Babymoon and More!

TV personality and businessman Bill Rancic joined me recently to share his top travel tips, and to discuss the Babymoon he and wife Giuliana (Rancic) are taking this month!

Bill Rancic

Candace Rose: You’re a successful businessman, TV host, and a loving husband with a baby on the way. How do you do it all?

Bill Rancic: “It’s not easy. And my wife and I- I tell you one thing we always do is we look at our lives, whether it’s from a business side, from a personal side or from a spiritual side and we kind of reverse engineer the process. We say, ‘in 10 years where do we want to be’? And then we look back at what we’re doing today and we ask ourselves, ‘is what we’re doing today going to get us to where we want to be 10 years from now’? And it kind of helps us design a roadmap on how to navigate life.”

Candace Rose: First and foremost congratulations on the new baby. Can you tell us about the babymoon you and Giuliana have planned?

Bill Rancic: “We’re having a baby via surrogate and that’s going to happen in Denver, and we’re in about a three week window. We’re officially on baby watch, so we’re going to set up a little Babymoon in Vail and just wait for the call. When that little guy comes in the world we’re going to be close by, we hop in the car and we’re going to be there for the delivery, so our Babymoon is going to be dictated by when this guy wants to come in the world. It could be a two day Babymoon or a two week Babymoon, we’ll see.”

Candace Rose: What’s the secret to planning a successful trip for business or pleasure?

Bill Rancic: “We are travelers. My wife and I, we log in a lot of miles, and one thing we’ve learned is to be very efficient when we travel; we’ve learned to expect the unexpected and be very agile. When you’re agile as a traveler you’re able to move quickly when things go array, and also you have to team up with the right people whether it’s airline partners or hotel partners, which is why I’m here today. I’ve teamed up with Citi and Hilton Honors, and we’re launching the Citi Hilton Honors Reserve card which gives us a lot of great benefits when we travel- free upgrades, we quality for free weekend stays and we don’t pay any international transaction fees, so it makes our lives a little bit easier when we’re on the road.”

Candace Rose: You both do a lot of international traveling. How do you manage to keep it fun?

Bill Rancic: “One simple tip- when we go on the road for business we’re often traveling internationally. If it’s a two day business trip I add an extra two days on for us to go explore to see the sights and see what that culture has to offer, so it feels more like a vacation than a business trip when I get back.”

Candace Rose: Do you have any additional tips or information you’d like to share?

Bill Rancic: “Certainly, all my business and travel tips are on, people can go there. But just travel as efficiently as you can and make sure you maximize every mile, every hotel stay. When you’re on the road you want to be rewarded for it, so make sure you’ve got the right credit card which is what we’re doing today.”
