Happy New Year! Did you set a lofty new year’s resolution and now having trouble keeping it? If so, you’re definitely not alone. We all want to be healthier, but it can be tough to stop those bad habits cold turkey and expect to maintain that goal! Earlier today, renowned lifestyle expert Raina Seitel joined me for an interview to share helpful healthy new year’s resolution meal ideas that sound really delicious!
Candace Rose: What’s the best way we can start this new year on the right foot?
Raina Seitel: “Candace so many of us think ‘new year, new you’ but I like to think about this as a better you and also setting attainable goals is really important. For instance, if you’ve never run before, saying you’re going to run a marathon by August might not be the most realistic goal. Instead, maybe say I’m going to run a mile by the end of January. Once you do that you check that off your list and maybe in February you’re going to run two miles, and by the end of the year you’re going to say ‘I really accomplished what I set out to accomplish.’
When it comes to new year’s resolutions, so many of us say we want to lose weight, we want to stay healthy, we want to get healthy, we want to exercise…but again, those are really lofty goals. How do we do that? I like to look at this as a daily routine, so make healthy choices in your daily routine and you will achieve success.
We all know that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and I love Wonderful Sweet Scarletts Texas red grapefruits. They’re sweet, healthy and delicious. They’re so sweet in fact that you do not have to add any sugar. They’re a great source of vitamin C, low in calories. You can eat these alone or of course pair them with your favorite breakfast options. If you’re running late one morning, grab these and eat them at your desk. They’re really satisfying and delicious.
When it comes to the middle of the day so many of us crave sweets, and we often reach for the chocolate or go to the vending machine. But I’m going to say please try and continue on this healthy kick and make healthy choices. Pom Wonderful 100% pomegranate juice is a great choice for the middle of the day. It’s a great middle of the day pick-me-up and it’s loaded with antioxidants, is great before you go to the gym, after you go to the gym. There are two whole pomegranates in every eight ounce bottle. There are no artificial colors or flavors or sweeteners. Also, I freeze the juice for my son, so he’s getting a pomegranate popsicle when he comes home from school or at the end of the day.
Speaking of the end of the day, we want to satisfying meal for dinner. I love Minute Ready to Serve rice. It’s great tasting, so convenient. It’s already cooked, so you heat it up for 60 seconds and you’re good to go. Again, this is great for dinner or frankly any meal of the day. There are tons of varieties, tons of choices. There’s brown rice, there are gluten free options and what I like to do with my minute rice is top it with toppings – so chicken, cheese, guacamole. It mixes it up a little bit and is so tasty and satisfying. If you want some more inspiration, you can go to MinuteRice.com for some more recipes.
Candace Rose: Do you have any additional tips or information you’d like to share with us?
Raina Seitel: “I like to kick it back old school, I have a pen and a piece of paper and I write down my to-do list for the day and for the week. When I do something on that list, I check it off and it just helps me keep motivated throughout the day.”
Candace Rose: Where can we go for more information on everything you mentioned?
Raina Seitel: “You can go to Twitter @Raina Seitel.”
