Tis the season for holiday parties, friends, family and amazing food! Just because it’s the holiday season doesn’t mean you can give up on eating healthy and staying fit, it’s more crucial now than ever to stay well. This morning I was joined by health and fitness expert Laura DeAngelis for an interview to discuss how we can keep up with our regular exercise routines, her must have headset for working out, what to do if you start feeling sick, and a must have pain reliever that I absolutely can’t live without either.
Candace Rose: With the busy holiday season upon us, how can we keep up with our regular exercise routines?
Laura DeAngelis: Candace, what I love to tell people this time of year is tis the season to be sneaky. What I mean by that is that it’s time to sneak the physical activity in wherever you can, especially during the day. A lot of us do have a holiday party or even a kids concert to attend after your work day is over, so make a couple of adjustments. Walk up the stairs whenever you can, park the car a little further away from the office entrance or even from the mall if you’re going shopping. If you do have that after work function, get up just 10 minutes earlier, drop down on the floor and do some planks, do some crunches. Get in a little activity before the day gets crazy. You’re going to feel that much better knowing you did do something as opposed to absolutely nothing on that given day.”
Candace Rose: Do you have any gift ideas for the fitness mavens and the rest of us this holiday season?
Laura DeAngelis: “Absolutely. Candace, regardless of your fitness level we can all use a dose of motivation from time to time, myself included. For me the biggest motivator is music. A great playlist can make or break your workout so this holiday season I say consider giving the gift of the perfect workout headset. I like the LG TONE Active wireless headset. It rests right on your neck and is super comfortable. It’s got retractable earbuds so nothing is going to get tangled while you’re working out and moving around. It’s wireless so it’ll work with any Bluetooth enabled smartphone. It’s really a great gift to keep people moving and also stick with those health and fitness goals for 2016.”
Candace Rose: Do you have any advice when it comes to dealing with colds this holiday season?
Laura DeAngelis: “Unfortunately Candace I’m at the tail end of a cold and it seems like the cold bug just wants to jump in at the holidays when we’re trying to have a good time. We don’t want that, we want to feel our best as quickly as we can. I’m very grateful that my mom actually got me tuned into the Cold-EEZE cold remedy products a long time ago. I always have them in the house and some in my purse. The classic cherry lozenge is clinically proven to shorten the duration of a common cold by 40%. You’ve got Cleveland Clinic and Dartmouth stats to back that up.” Please see video above for more details.
Candace Rose: We tend to do a lot of lifting and dragging during the holidays. Do you have any tips for dealing with the pain we sometimes experience?
Laura DeAngelis: “There’s a couple of things going on here Candace like you mentioned. Some of us are abbreviating those workouts so we may be punching it up high intensity and not stretching as much as we should. We are lifting, we are dragging and if any of us are playing elf, which I tend to do for my family and I love doing it, you’re lifting boxes and stringing lights and you’re just using your joints in different ways. Before the pain threatens to put the kibosh in your fun plans, take action right away. For me that means reaching for the Arnicare Gel. It works on muscle pain, stiffness, swelling from injuries and bruising. What I like about it is it has an active natural ingredient – the mountain daisy. The gel is non-greasy. It’s cooling on the skin and to me the best part is it’s unscented.”
Candace Rose: Well, thank you so much Laura. Where can we go for more information?
