Candace Rose: What is Friendsgiving?

Whitney Bond: “Friendsgiving started as a tradition where those that couldn’t go home for the holidays started planning parties with their friends. If you can’t be with your family for the holidays, why not be with the family you choose, your friends. It really has grown with young people across the country to where now they throw Friendsgiving parties the weekend before or the weekend after Thanksgiving, as well as on Thanksgiving. It’s a really fun time to get together with your friends.

You can’t throw a great Friendsgiving party without a great cocktail. Sauza Tequila has one that I love, it’s the Sauza Harvest Cocktail and it combines Sauza’s Signature Blue Silver Tequila with maple syrup and pumpkin puree, so all those fun fall flavors that we love in one cocktail. A great tip that I have for Friendsgiving is to make your cocktail in a pitcher before your friends arrive, so you’re spending more time with your friends and less time in the kitchen.

Now, a quick and easy dish that you can make is with Success 10 Minute Boil-in-Bag Rice. I love this because you get four bags of rice per box and there’s no measure, no mess. It’s very quick and easy. They’re gluten free, they’re versatile and they’re providing a lot of the same nutrients as long cooked rice but only in 10 minutes. The quick and easy dish that I’m loving for Friendsgiving is the Success Rice Cakes with Goat Cheese and Bacon because everyone loves cheese and bacon.

For a fun twist on dessert I’m really loving the Pop Works and Company three different flavors of ready to eat popcorn in the bag. They’re all available on PopWorks.com. They have a birthday cake, cookies & cream, and then a salted caramel with fudge, so flavors that are really delicious and a great spin on dessert. They’re also great to take as hostess gifts, so if you’re not the one hosting Friendsgiving, then grab some of these Pop Works and Company bags of popcorn and take them to the party with you.”

Candace Rose: Are there any other cool new ways to make the holiday special?

Whitney Bond: “For me, my holidays are never complete without my favorite furry friend. I have a puppy, so I definitely want to include him in the festivities so PetSmart is helping us make Friendsgiving also Petsgiving. They have a Blue Family Favorite Blue Turducken. It’s a hearty full meal for your little friend, and then we also have a great 100% natural treat from Three Dog Bakery, it’s a Pup-Kin Spiced Latte treat. We all love the pumpkin spiced lattes, and this is a fun twist on that for your furry little friends.

What I would say is to remind all of your guests that it’s a potluck style. That’s the fun thing about Friendsgiving, everyone brings something to contribute and then you’ve got a little bit of everything and then some twists on the traditional Thanksgiving meal.”

Candace Rose: Do you have any additional tips or information you’d like to share with us?
