When it comes to technology, Mario Armstrong is the authority! He’s also an expert when it comes to shopping smart and early, especially for holiday gifts. Believe it or not, but you don’t have to wait until Black Friday or Cyber Monday to save big money on electronics, technology and big ticket items, you can actually save right now in the month of October. Mario Armstrong was kind enough to join me for an interview this week to dish on the top gifts we should stock up on early, where to buy the perfect gift, how to shop for gifts when you can’t quite afford to buy the gift the recipient really wants and so much more!
Candace Rose: What gifts should we stock up on early?
Mario Armstrong: “Candace, people love tablets. Grandparents to grandkids, they love their tablets. One of the hottest ones that is out right now that you really need to check out is in partnership. Check this out, it’s Barnes & Noble is in partnership with Samsung to create the Galaxy Tab S2 Nook. This is an eight inch tablet, it’s super thin, Candace. I can’t get over how thin this is and how lightweight it is because of its thinness. It’s really fast, too. The thinnest which really blows me away, what also blows me away is the vibrant display that it has. The screen looks really, really great. It’s going to be perfect for viewing all that Nook content whether it’s books, magazines, maybe graphic novels, movies, TV shows, whatever you watch or do, it’s really going to look great when you’re viewing it on that device. Head over to Barnes & Noble or head over to Nook.com to find out about that new tablet.”
Candace Rose: Do you have any advice for those of us who want to purchase a gift we can’t afford?
Mario Armstrong: “This happens to me every holiday season inevitably from my brother who thinks that I’m just like Daddy Warbucks or he thinks I’m crushing it. I’m like dude, let me bring you back to reality, I can’t afford that for you. I wish I would have known about this app this year, but I’m going to use it this year for sure, it’s giftfund. Basically, Candace it’s like crowdfunding for a gift. What can happen is, I say ‘Hey, Sean. Log onto this app, it’s free to use on your mobile Android or Apple device, upload your profile, put in the item that you want. It’ll bring up the price of how much that thing costs and then he can send out a link that all of us can now check in on the app and we can chip in what we can afford to chip in. All of his family and friends can say I’ll chip in $25 or I’ll chip in $50 and help you get the item that you really want by having your friends chip into your gift fund.”
Candace Rose: Where can I get a great deal and great advice on big ticket items?
Mario Armstrong: “Big ticket items are something that you really want to think through before you just buy them. You want to think through everything from warranty to the customer service, returns and shipping…especially when you’re looking at appliances, furniture and electronics. You want to look at a reputable place like hhgregg. If you have an hhgregg store in your town, that’s great. If not, you can go to hhgregg.com. They have tremendous great prices and discounts because they have a huge inventory of items, so they’re always being very competitive. For example, on set with me I have this new LG flat screen. It’s an OLED 4K TV. For those of you that know 4K, that’s four times the resolution of HD, and that’s called ultra HD. It looks amazing, vibrant colors. The blacks are really dark and rich, so it’s a great television, but it could be out of some people’s price options or it could be a big ticket item for people. Maybe you want to buy a new TV for the upcoming Super Bowl or for the Thanksgiving college football games. If that’s the case you want to go to a place that’s reputable, but also a place like hhgregg because they have 36 months financing to kind of stretch out those payments to make big ticket items more affordable over a small period of time.”
Candace Rose: Do you have any additional holiday shopping ideas for people on a budget?
Mario Armstrong: “I just think in general, you want to shop early. The retailers and manufacturers aren’t just waiting for Black Friday, they aren’t just waiting for December 1 to really hit to give you those great deals, they’re trying to stretch out their fourth quarter earnings to really happen starting now. There are a lot of deals that are happening and I’d hate for people to miss out on those because they’re just like ‘I’m going to wait and hold off a few more weeks, that price will probably drop down.’ If it’s a good price and you can afford it, go ahead and snatch it up at that moment to check it off on your list.”
Candace Rose: Thank you as always, Mario! Where can we go for more information?
Mario Armstrong: “Candace, they can go a couple of places. For one they can go right to our website, we listed everything I just talked about at ThunkNews.com/Prepare. You can also hit me on Twitter.com/MarioArmstrong anytime, and find me in our Never Settle Club, which is a group on Facebook.”
