According to Joy Bauer, the first thing you want to do is add more protein and fiber to your diet on a daily basis because “it takes your body work to break them down. Your body is going to get a little bit of a jolt, but also because it steadies your blood sugar. Steady blood sugars means you’re going to have more sustained energy.” One of Joy’s favorite protein-rich breakfasts is cereal with Greek yogurt and topped with fresh berries – yum!

When you need a healthy snack, Joy Bauer recommends:

  • pumpkin seeds
  • sunflower seeds
  • roasted chickpeas
  • edamame
  • cocoa dusted almonds
  • dark chocolate covered espresso beans

She also mentioned that you’ll want to make sure “you’re getting enough iron-rich foods” because iron “delivers oxygen throughout your whole entire body.” She suggested you add these iron-rich foods to your diet:

  • lean meats
  • poultry, green
  • leafy vegetables
  • beans
  • lentils

I’m one of those people who has to have at least seven or eight hours of good quality sleep at night, or else I have a hard time the next day. Joy Bauer reiterated just how crucial sleep is, especially sleeping seven hours a night.

If you need to have a glass of wine before bed, think again. Joy dished that it “leads to disruptive slumber.”

Lastly, Joy Bauer has the secret to making the perfect smoothie for that afternoon slump! It calls for caffeinated green or black tea, Greek yogurt, frozen mango chunks, ice cubes, and vanilla extract! I don’t know about you, but that sounds delicious! I can’t wait to make this mango smoothie today! PS: Joy Bauer shared the recipe on her Twitter account @JoyBauer
