When it comes to planning the perfect road trip or traveling with the family, most of us think that the months of June, July or August are the perfect time, but believe it or not September through November are fantastic as well, especially if you’re dreaming of traveling to Sarasota, Florida! MomTrends Media founder, Nicole Feliciano was kind enough to join me for an interview this morning to chat about planning the perfect family road trip, how to keep the family healthy and entertained while on the road and why Sarasota is a travel must, especially in the month of November!
Candace Rose: Road trips can be a great family bonding experience what advice do you have for making sure the car is safe for travel?
Nicole Feliciano: “Hum is a great new service from Verizon and it helps you be a smarter and safer driver, which is essential when you’re a parent. It’s a must have service for your upcoming road trips or a simple trip to the mall or soccer game. Hum predicts car issues and gives you maintenance reminders to prevent breakdowns. For me I’ve got that long list of things to do and the oil changes don’t make it to the top of the list, but Hum will help remind me about them. There’s also a mechanics hotline so you can just push a button and you can have live access to a mechanic who can give you help and emergency assistance. If you do have a breakdown there is a built-in GPS locator that will help find if and when you need it. All of these things make it a must have for short trips, long trips – all of our car trips.”
Candace Rose: Is there a way to prevent the inevitable sniffles?
Nicole Feliciano: “Well, sniffles happen especially now that the kids are back to school. They’re bringing those germs home and sharing them with the rest of the family. I always use the classic cherry Cold-EEZE cold remedy lozenges, they are clinically proven to shorten the duration of your cold almost in half and if you’re showing flu-like symptoms (maybe you’ve got a cough or chest congestion or a sore throat) the Cold-EEZE multi-symptom cold melts have you covered. You just pop one of these in your mouth and they dissolve, you don’t even need water. The key ingredient for both the QuickMelts and lozenges is zinc. Zinc is quickly absorbed into the upper respiratory tract helping to fight off the cold virus, so both the QuickMelts and the lozenges offer the same amount of cold remedy relief. They’re great to have on hand and they’re going to get you back into the game feeling much better quickly.”
Candace Rose: Where’s your favorite fall vacation spot?
Nicole Feliciano: “Everyone loves the beach in the summer, but I love the beach in the fall because the crowds are diminished and you still have warm water, warm oceans especially in summer. One of my favorite beaches is Sarasota. They’ve got 38 miles of beaches, extremely family friendly, it’s on the Gulf Coast, so there’s just gentle waves there where the kids can be building sand castles while mom and dad enjoy hanging out on the beach. There’s two great festivals that are happening in November, there’s the annual Siesta Key Crystal Classic Sand Sculpting Festival, so those are are all those enormous creative sand sculptures that I love to see and the kids love them also – that’s November 13th through the 17th. Then from November 9th to the 16th there’s the Chalk Festival. This is a free festival where Sarasota turns the streets into colorful canvases reminiscent of Venice, Italy. Those are two great ways to spend some time in Sarasota with the kids and it’s a great time now to plan that vacation to Sarasota.”
Candace Rose: Do you have any additional tips or information you’d like to share with us?
Nicole Feliciano: “Head to MomTrends.com for more ideas, but one of my favorite road trip ideas, head to your local public library and make sure you get some books on CD. We’ve been listening to the Harry Potter series in the past, we’ve listened to biographies, and this way you can get the road trip a little bit educational, a little bit more fun and the kids don’t complain about being in the car. You don’t have to invest a lot of money because the library has these things you can check in and check out, so we love that. Of course the classic license plate game! You can’t go wrong with that. We found one where there’s also all of the state capitals on the game as well, so you’re teaching your kids a little bit about geography, you’re talking to them about all the places that you’ve been and it’s a great way to make the time in the car seem a little bit less stressful and a lot more fun.”
Candace Rose: Thank you Nicole for the great family travel tips! Where can we go for more information?
Nicole Feliciano: “You can head over to VideoPump.tv for everything we’ve talked about today.”
