New York Times Bestselling author Meredith Wild self-published her first novel “Hardwired” in 2013 and readers have been hooked ever since. “Hardwired” was the first romance novel in The Hacker Series, a series of five books which is beloved by many around the globe. In just two years the 32 year old bestselling author, successful entrepreneur, proud wife and mother of three children has written four other novels and recently concluded The Hacker Series with her fifth book “Hard Love”.
“Hard Love” was released on Tuesday, September 15th and I had the honor of interviewing author Meredith Wild last week to discuss her new book, what inspired her to create her Harvard educated character Erica, the relationship between Erica and her husband Blake, her experience self-publishing four novels and much more.
Candace Rose: Everyone loves The Hacker Series and your characters Erica and Blake are beloved by many. Can you tell us about your book “Hard Love” and what inspired you to write it?
Meredith Wild: “Hard Love’ is the fifth and final book in The Hacker Series that follows internet entrepreneur Erica Hathaway and her billionaire beau Blake Landon who also happens to be a rumored computer hacker, so the five books follow the journey of their relationship, professional challenges. It also has a lot of suspense, murder, betrayal and intrigue.”
Candace Rose: Erica is a strong independent, intelligent, developer and a Harvard graduate. What inspired you to create this character?
Meredith Wild: “Well, at the time I was reading a lot of romance and I think a lot of women want to read about strong female heroines and that was the character that I wanted to write, somebody who had a little bit more going for her professionally, somebody that I could relate to a little bit more.
I had been running a software company for 10 years when I started writing the books and it was a really fun challenge to kind of bring some of my personal experiences in that tech industry to her and her story.”
Candace Rose: How does The Hacker Series differ from other popular romance novels?
Meredith Wild: “Well, I think Erica is unique in that she’s a strong albeit young woman in a male dominated industry. She’s really fledgeling and trying to strike out on her own in the face of her love interest who is very wealthy, very accomplished and used to having his way. That power play is really what inspired a lot of the story and drives their relationship through the course of the five books.”
Candace Rose: You’re a New York Times Best Selling author, successful entrepreneur and mom. You’re such an inspiration to us all! What do you attribute to your success?
Meredith Wild: “Well, I’m a very determined person not unlike Erica and I like to see my goals through, but I also have some really amazing support in my husband as a partner with parenting and following my dreams. Having that full package and that support has been really critical.”
Candace Rose: You’ve had so much success with The Hacker Series and actually self published the first four books (in the series). Why did you choose to self-publish?
Meredith Wild: “Well, as an entrepreneur I was really comfortable with taking on that challenge. Anybody who is self-publishing is essentially running their own business. You have to wear a lot of hats and be somewhat comfortable doing that, so I tackled the learning curve and I was interested to see how far I could take it on my own first.”
Candace Rose: Congratulations on your fourth book hitting number one on the New York Times Bestseller list, that had to be so exciting! Can you tell us about that?
Meredith Wild: “It was definitely one of the best moments for me. It was very tearful and rewarding, a lot of hard work went into it. It was a great milestone to hit on my own as a self-published author.”
Candace Rose: Do you have any additional information you’d like to share with all of us?
Meredith Wild: “Hard Love is released in stores this week (September 15th) and for more information on the series and other books you can go to MeredithWild.com.”
