It’s hard to believe that it’s officially back to school season in Northern California. Where has the summer gone? The hotter than usual temps may still be here, but one thing is definitely for sure, everyone is in back to school shopping mode! “Top Tech Mom” Jeana Tahnk is an expert in everything technology and back to school, and she was kind enough to join me for an interview this morning to share her back to school technology essentials – from durable yet trendy tech cases to a boombox that comes out on September 1st and the must have apps every parent needs.
Candace Rose: What are some of your top picks for back to school season?
Jeana Tahnk: “Well, I have been preparing myself for the past few weeks for back to school. It’s definitely a transition for everyone involved – students and parents alike, so I’ve been scouring the newest tech to provide awesome picks and advice for easing back into that back to school mode. First up, I’m all about protection. It’s so important these days to keep these tablets protected, especially when you’re talking about kids bringing them to school on a daily basis, pulling it out of their backpacks several times a day. OtterBox is so great for that – OtterBox makes protective cases for all kinds of mobile devices. The Symmetry Series Folio case for iPad Air 2 and iPad Mini – these cases are super slim (please see video above for details) and stylish, but they also offer all around protection. They wrap around the iPad to protect from scratches on the screen, dings, drops – perfect for students. These are $70. You can go to OtterBox.com for more information and for more styles. They have so many different options for all kinds of mobile devices, again that’s definitely a student must have.
Moving on to sound – every student needs a good piece of sound equipment in their room and this is the JBL Xtreme (please see video above for details). I love JBL, I know Candi, I’ve been on your show many times before and I’ve talked about how much I love JBL products because the sound quality is incredible. The JBL Xtreme is actually coming out September 1st, so this is a sneak peek into this boom box of the future. This has a handle that you can attach to it, it’s portable, it’s splash proof, it has a 15 hour long battery life, it’s outlasted the other wireless speakers that I’ve been testing. It also charges your devices while music is playing. I love the fact that it’s multifunctional. Again, it’s coming out September 1st and it’s going to be $299. This is a must have for any student as well.
Now, on to the parents – it’s a transition for parents too, and I wanted to just quickly mention a few apps that I personally use on a daily basis. First up, Google Calendar keeps everyone’s schedules in one place. My husband and I use that religiously. Lala Lunchbox is a great planning app to help break up the monotony of those PB&J sandwiches every day. And then the third is an app called ArtKive, and it helps you digitally preserve all those beautiful pieces of art that your kids bring home on a daily basis.
You can check out more information on those apps and these awesome products at TopTechMom.com. Hopefully tech to the rescue for back to school! I know it’s definitely a tough time for everyone to get used to.”
