Tis the season for summer travel! If you are planning a fun family road trip or a tropical vacation to the Bahamas, but aren’t sure where to start, you’re in luck. Renowned travel expert Kinga Philipps joined me for an interview this morning to share her simple and savvy summer travel tips to ensure you have a safe, fun and memorable vacation.
Candace Rose: Where should we begin if we’re hitting the road, air or sea this summer?
Kinga Philipps: “I think the best thing to do is to be organized, to plan ahead and to really take into account who is going with you so you can pick the proper destination for everyone to have the best time.
One of my personal favorites are road trips, that’s how I grew up. I think it is such an intimate way to see the country; also great family bonding. I love, love, love road snacks and eating in the car, but you want to have something that is quick and easy, isn’t going to make a huge mess. You don’t want to be sitting in the backseat making a seven layer dip or a giant sandwich. Quick and easy, who does it so well is Combos Baked Snacks. They have two new flavors that are just delicious, they are Sweet and Salty Caramel Creme, and Sweet and Salty Vanilla Frosting and just sound like explosions of magical goodness in your mouth. It is definitely going to tie you over to your next great destination – be it a diner or the great big ball of twine in Minnesota!”
Candace Rose: Do you have any suggestions when planning for longer getaways?
Kinga Philipps: “I do. I think that when you’re planning for a longer getaway, again take into account who is going with you and pick a destination where everyone is going to have the best time possible. In my opinion it is almost always the beach. Everyone loves the beach, I just came back from the Caribbean – I love it there so much, and I can attest to the fact Nassau Paradise Island in the beautiful Bahamas is just gorgeous. It is truly gorgeous – turquoise water, white sand beaches, easy access from most places in the United States, great food, some really cool history there; lots of different types of accommodations that won’t break the bank. It’s really just a fantastic, fantastic place.
You’re going to want to get there and really experience the new airport, even. They just redesigned it, it is beautiful. You are going to breeze right through customs with their new kiosks, and then straight to the beach for you and your feet in the sand.”
Candace Rose: Are there any other must haves we need when traveling this summer?
Kinga Philipps: “There are! We talked about putting your feet in the sand, and it’s kind of the classic photo on Instagram or Facebook or Twitter and it’s sort of bragging rights when you go on vacation. Plus, you’re going to want to call all your friends and your parents and let them know what a great trip you are having, and in order to do that you need a great cellphone plan. I think the best one out there right now is Total Wireless. It’s $35 a month, you get 2.5 GB of data, unlimited talk and text, no contract, so it’s great. It’s basically everything that you want, nothing that you don’t. If you do have a family and you want to share a plan, you can actually split 5 GB of data, unlimited talk and text and that starts at $60 a month, so that is a great plan, and of course you can get all of those photos of your feet in the sand.
Speaking of feet, this is just one of my personal favorites that always puts such a smile on your face (please see video above for details) they are Sigvaris compression products. These are their compression socks, and they are not just your grandma’s compression socks anymore. I’m telling you, every avid traveler (including myself) has a pair of these. They are so great for planes, trains, automobiles and anytime you’re sitting for a long time. They’re going to keep you healthy, keep you safe from scary blood clots, they’re going to keep your feet from swelling, keep that circulation going. They’ve gotten super stylish, so they’re going to get you to your destination feeling refreshed and relaxed and you’re gong to be able to stick your feet in the sand even faster.”
Candace Rose: Do you have any additional tips or information you’d like to share with us?
Kinga Philipps: “I think one of my favorite travel tips is safety, really – safety first. Take everything out of your wallet, you take out all your credit cards, your driver’s license – everything you have in there and then you photocopy the front and the back. You keep that with you but in a separate location so if anything happens to your wallet, you immediately have all the phone numbers of all the credit cards – everything you have in there that you can call and can shut down credit cards and get replacements. It’s really a great tip to stay safe.”
Candace Rose: Well, thank you for the great travel tips, Kinga. Where can we go for more information on everything you mentioned?
Kinga Philipps: “Well, every one of these great products has a website, so definitely get on there and check it out and pick up some fantastic projects and products for your next trip.”
