With summer officially upon us, now is the time to start to planning for that fun and memorable family vacation that you and your loved ones will be talking about for years. Journalist and super mom Raina Seitel joined me for an interview on Friday to dish on the secret to planning the perfect vacation and staycation, and how to plan accordingly to ensure your entire family has fun this summer.
Candace Rose: Do you have any ideas for a great indoor activity this summer?
Raina Seitel: “Yes, summer is here and obviously movies are such a popular activity – ‘Jurassic World’ is all the rage, and now it can be yours in your own living room thanks to Lego’s. Right in front of me I have the Lego Jurassic World Raptor Rampage set. It’s very interactive, you can see these mini figurines with Chris Pratt’s character ‘Owen’, and a mobile vet unit (the doors open). This keeps the kids occupied and active all day long. It’s $49.99.”
Candace Rose: How can we create a fun atmosphere for a family of stay-cationers?
Raina Seitel: “All of us love a good staycation once in a while, and I love to get the kids outside and active – the H2OGO! water slide is the first slide that has an inflatable launchpad, so the kids don’t have to worry about the ouch factor – it’s great. They have three different models – the single, the double, and the triple lane models. Get all of the neighborhood friends over for some good outdoor competitive fun.”
Candace Rose: What’s a winning snack?
Raina Seitel: “Snacks are always great to have on hand for hungry kids. Cheetos has really upped the ante this summer, they have a new flavor called Cheetos Mix-Ups Flamin’ Hot & Cheezy. It’s great for kids who are at camp, are great if you’re going on a road trip. I also want to mention something really fun, they’re something going on out there that you can’t miss, there are two keys in two different bags of Cheetos. If you find one of the specially marked bags with the key in it, you win a free vacation to Florida or California. The just is Mr. Cheetah has borrowed his boss’ beach house keys, so if you find one of the keys you get a free vacation.”
Candace Rose: What text, talk and data plan do you recommend for the summer?
Raina Seitel: “For the summer, a lot of kids are texting and talking and we want to keep the cost down, that’s where Straight Talk Wireless comes in. It’s a 30-day unlimited talk and text plan. For $45 a month you bring in your own phone, you have your own phone number. You get five gigabytes of data, and you have 4GLTE speed which you can’t beat, so you’re saving money. You can text and talk all day long while saving money.”
Candace Rose: Is there a safe and secure place to leave our pets while we’re away?
Raina Seitel: “Absolutely. We can’t forget about our furry friends while we’re out having fun on vacation, so PetSmart PetsHotel is a great place to leave cats and dogs either overnight or Doggie Day Care, which is day of. On July 19th it’s National Ice Cream Day, the dogs can get in on the action too thanks to PetSmart. You bring in your dog, you check out the facility and your dog will get a free doggy safe ice cream sample.”
Candace Rose: Do you have any getaway suggestions?
Raina Seitel: “Yes. It’s a great to unite with your family and really connect. Dreams Resorts & Spas is a great place to do just that. It’s family friendly, all inclusive unlimited luxury. The whole family will have lots of fun – there’s great clubs for the kids. There’s a great promotion going on, it’s called Kids Stay Free. What that means is between August 22nd and December 23rd, if you have children under the age of 12 (two kids with two paying adults) the two kids stay for free. You can check that out and more information at DreamsResorts.com.
