Are you on the hunt for the top toys, games and tech must haves for your child’s Easter basket? If so, you’re in luck! With Easter 2015 just a little over a week away, tech expert Jeana Lee Tahnk joined me for an interview to dish on the top tech inspired Easter gifts.
Candace Rose: What are some of your top tech picks this Easter season?
Jeana Lee Tahnk: “We have a lot of great items to talk about to help mix up that Easter basket just a little bit. First up is Nintendo’s latest line of figures called amiibo. These are interactive figures that instantly come to life with a simple tap to the Wii U game pad or the new Nintendo 3ds XL. You can see there’s Mario, Luigi, Yoshi – all of our favorite Super Mario characters that we know and love. These are only $12.99 so it’s a great value and it’s also fantastic because they’ve really enhanced game play. They can be customized for games like Mario Party 10, which just launched for Wii U and Super Smash Bros. – perfect for gamers of all ages, and it’s really fun because I grew up playing Super Mario Bros. so it’s really fun to be able to share that with my kids as well.”
Candace Rose: Are there any other tech must haves that we need to know about?
Jeana Lee Tahnk: “Absolutely! Moving on to really unique items, you have to check out Gemr.com! This is a new very hot social network that’s really geared toward people who collect things, who want to show and tell them, share them, buy, trade, discover. It’s really an opportunity to really show off something that you value. It’s really fun to go on and see what people collect. There’s art, antiques, sneakers, sports memorabilia and Funko figurines that have a huge following on Gemr – very, very popular. That would make a great addition to any Easter basket. Gemr is free to sign up. You’ve got to sign up today on Gemr.com or through the iOS and Android apps. Gemr is really excited to build and grow the community, so they’re offering a promotion from now until April 30th – you can sign up, the more friends and family you bring on, the more chances you have to win things like t-shirts and even a $500 Amex gift card.
Finally for an educational twist to the Easter basket, look no further than BioPop’s Dino Pet. This is a magic trick, a science lesson, and a pet all in one. This is filled with living organisms, they’re photosynthetic plankton called dinoflagellates. All these dinoflagellates need are indirect light during the day and then at night you take them into a dark room and you gently shake the Dino Pet and they glow a beautiful blue color (please see video for details). This is a natural occurrence called bioluminescence. It happens in our oceans and it’s just really fun to be able to teach kids about science and nature with this Dino Pet, a story book. Again, obviously there’s going to be chocolate, and jelly beans and all that yummy stuff in the Easter baskets, but mix in a little gaming, education and collectibles and you’re guaranteed to have a basket that any kid would love.”
Candace Rose: Do you have any additional tips or information you’d like to share?
Jeana Lee Tahnk: “Yes, you can go to TopTechMom.com for more information about these great items.”
