How Women Can Overcome Struggles In Life, Find Balance and Look and Feel More Youthful with Relationship Expert Andrea Syrtash and Dermatologist Dr. Jeannette Graf

Being a woman in this day and age can be exhausting. According to recent statistics,¬†75 million American women make up 47.4% of the workforce, and that doesn’t include the work that also comes along with raising a family, caregiving for loved ones and juggling relationships, too. Let’s not forget about the guilt that comes with putting ourselves first. No wonder so many of us are often tired!

Best selling author, Andrea Syrtash and renowned dermatologist Dr. Jeannette Graf are experts when it comes to helping women feel empowered and confident in themselves, and they were kind enough to join me for an interview this week to discuss the biggest struggles for women, how to overcome the guilt we feel when we put ourselves first, and share tips on how we can feel healthier and look more youthful.

Candace Rose: What’s the biggest struggle for women?

Andrea Syrtash: “I think it’s finding time and balance.We’re jugglers by nature. We’re multitaskers, nobody monotasks – I’ve never heard of that! My big tip for us jugglers is to stop thinking in terms of all or nothing because then we’ll end up with nothing, because you can’t do it all. It’s really about the small steps you take, the daily changes that will improve your life.”

Candace Rose: Do you have any tips to help women end the guilt associated with putting themselves first?

Andrea Syrtash: “Well, get rid of the guilt, that’s the first big message. Guilt does not serve you, it does not help your family. It’s wasted energy, in fact. Instead of the guilt, take inventory. Focus on what’s working, what you’re doing well because you’re doing more than you know. It’s also really important to feel comfortable in your own skin, this is all about empowering women to be themselves, to be their authentic self.

You want to feel good inside and out, and Dr. Graf who is a great dermatologist, can speak more on that.”

Candace Rose: What are some tips to reclaim your sense of self, and why is it so important?

Dr. Jeannette Graf: “From a skin point of view it’s very important, both internally and externally. You must take care of yourself. You have to be number one in your life, otherwise you’re not going to be of use to anyone else, so you really have to take care of yourself.

That means having a good healthy diet and by that I mean a mediterranean type of diet with lots of colors, vegetables, fruits. Drink a lot of water – ditch the soft drinks – drink water throughout the day. Most of us walk around dehydrated. Squeeze some lemon in it to make it even better. That’s going to give us an internal glow.

You have to take good care of yourself on the outside. That means using good skincare. We age as we get environmental stressors hurled at us, so use good skincare. One day when you look in the mirror and you start to see those lines around your lips and around your mouth (I call them Etch A Sketch lines) then it’s actually worth a trip to your dermatologist office to have some Belotero put in because what that’s going to do is it’s going to fill in those lines and help you look much younger.”

Candace Rose: Your goal is to help women feel empowered and confident from the inside out, what are some other helpful tips or pick-me-ups to help women get back on their feet to start looking and feeling more youthful?

Andrea Syrtash: “Well, I think the biggest issue we have as jugglers is staying present, so any activities that will keep you focused on the now and not on the 100 things that are on your to-do list will help. That could be as simple as taking a bubble bath, going for a nice walk, reconnecting with girlfriends – the point is you want to feel like yourself and you want to stay in the now. Being present is the simplest way to practice gratitude. It’s the simplest way to feel like you have control in your life, so that’s always a good thing.”
