Snow is beautiful to look at, but unfortunately harsh cold winter temps can really wreak havoc on our skin, giving us cracked lips and making our fine lines appear more pronounced due to dry skin. What’s a girl to do? Beauty expert, Grace Gold was kind enough to join me for an interview yesterday to dish on her top three winter must haves to help you combat fine lines, chapped lips, and help you update your makeup routine!
Candace Rose: Do you have any tips on how we can update our winter look?
Grace Gold: “Well, Candace, it is chapped lips season, so you need a really great lip balm this time of year. What you need to look for is something that protects, soothes and moisturizes because our lips are the most fragile skin on our body, it’s exposed to the winter elements this time of year – and one of my favorite brands is Carmex. It’s a very hardworking formula, it’s got some of the best ingredients you can look for – petrolatum, lanolin, cocoa seed butter really blocks out the harsh icy air and keeps your lips feeling healthy and moisturized even in the extreme cold weather. Sun rays can continue to cracked lips, so they have Click Sticks. These actually have SPF 15 in here to really help with those cracked lips, keep it looking and feeling soft and moist this time of year. I also like the salicylic acid which exfoliates the flakes off of your lips. It also comes in jars, tubes, sticks. We all have our favorite way of using lip balm, so you can pick your favorite with your favorite flavor and reapply those to really get soft lips this time of year.
Also, Candace, it’s really exciting we’ve got New York Fashion Week kicking off here and some of those trends can really help brighten up your winter look, too. Now, the big secret backstage are the makeup brushes these makeup artists are using. They really give you that flawless high definition look. I’ve got a great brand you can find at Ulta right now, it’s Real Techniques Bold Metals collection. They’re premium innovative brushes, they give you that high definition look off the runway, and they come with online tutorials. You can go to RealTechniques.com, you can learn how to use the brushes. They’re very high performance with soft bristles. They pick up and deposit color really well, they have weighted handles. One of the trends we’re seeing is contouring where you’re using one shade deeper underneath your cheekbone to really pop your bone structure. This is one of their most popular brushes, #301 (please see video above for details). You need this shape brush to really get in under that cheekbone and really create that look for yourself at home. The handles also tell you where to use them. The rose gold are for your finishing touch brushes, the gold are for your face, the silver are for your eyes, but of course there are no rules of beauty so you can use them as you’d like. These are available at Ulta stores exclusively.
Lastly, the cold air also exacerbates the look of fine lines and wrinkles, and there’s this great new product to solve that issue – RoC Smooth Perfexion Line Corrector. It instantly smooths the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, improves skin firmness, it’s lightweight and really bridges the gap between skincare and cosmetics. After about two weeks you’ll see results, so you can use a little less makeup, maybe skip foundation entirely. Also, something called Copper Zinc technology you should know about, and it really harnesses bioelectricity to safely and gently stimulate skin’s natural cell processes. That gives you healthy looking skin, anti-aging benefits and we of course all love that.”
Candace Rose: Well, thank you for the great tips, Grace! Where can we go for more information?
Grace Gold: “You can go to VideoPump.tv to find out more about these products or where you can purchase them.”
