Are you on the hunt for a new home security system, tablet, set of headphones or a fitness app that will help you stick to those New Year’s resolutions that you set a little over a month ago? If so, you’re in luck! Tech expert Mario Armstrong was kind enough to join me for an interview recently to discuss the must have tech apps and devices that we need to be healthy, safe, fit and will also help us save money in 2015.
Candace Rose: What’s new and innovative in home security?
Mario Armstrong: “I’ve tested a lot of webcams in my life, but Simplicam is the first and only wifi home monitoring system with facial recognition, so you know exactly who is home. This is powered by Closeli. It’s great for checking in on my dog, Cello or checking on my dog coming home from school or even the babysitter or even an aging parent. It only takes about three minutes to set up, which is great. The other awesome thing about this is it has two way talk, so that means you can actually speak to anyone at home and they can speak back to you. It’s a really great way for you to monitor your home system and check in on things.”
Candace Rose: Is there anything new in tablets?
Mario Armstrong: “I also have with me today the world’s thinnest tablet, the Intel powered Dell Venue 8 7000 series. It also has Intel’s RealSense technology, which includes three cameras in here. It gives you all types of new things that you can do hands-free with the device. One of the cool things about it is that you can actually change the focus after you’ve taken a picture, so that you can also edit like a professional on this device. $399 for that.”
Candace Rose: Is there anything special for music buffs?
Mario Armstrong: “Now, for all of my music fans – I’m big on music…I’m a former DJ, so I know good sound when I hear it – so I brought out the UE Megaboom. I love this speaker, it’s made by Ultimate Ears. It’s a portable Bluetooth speaker with 360 degree sound, multiple colors, waterproof, stain resistant, durable grab and go shape. It’s less than two pounds and has 20 hours of battery life, plus 100 foot wireless range. This thing is amazing, plus you can connect other speakers to it as well to even give it more sound, so that’s really cool.”
Candace Rose: What’s your favorite new app for drivers?
Mario Armstrong: “Now, for all of you that drive you’ve got to download this free app (that I actually put on my phone as well, and it’s saved me already on my car) it’s called RepairPal. This is a free must have app for all of you on the road that don’t really know how to get fair pricing for any repairs to your vehicle, so the app will check for you on a price for your problem with your car. For me, my taillight was out, I needed to know how much my make and model and what that repair would cost. I could get that information from the app and find a certified mechanic from the app that will honor that price as well. Plus they have roadside assistance, awesome app!”
Candace Rose: How are headsets keeping up with the times?
Mario Armstrong: “Now, for those of you that also like to listen while you’re on the go to great tunes, or maybe you’re working out and those tangling cords get all in the way, I have a great set of headphones for you – LG Tone series. Three different products from them, they have the Pro, they have the Ultra, and they have the Infinim. You get amazing sound with these wireless Bluetooth headsets that are ergonomically designed, at least 10 hours of music listening and 15 hours of talk time.”
Candace Rose: What do you recommend for mind and body fitness?
Mario Armstrong: “Last but not least to make sure you’re staying in shape with those New Year’s resolutions, I’ve got two great fitness apps for you brought to you by FitStar. They’re customizable routines, and the first one helps you with your personal training goals led by NFL legend Tony Gonzalez. If you’re into yoga, they have yoga powerhouse Tara Stiles with FitStar Yoga app. Both of these apps are on discount right now for $29.99, but you have to use my code which is FitStar.com/Mario.
