Technology always makes a great gift, especially for the holidays! Technology journalist, Andrea Smith joined me for an interview this morning to share some of the top tech gadgets everyone on your list will love this holiday season. She also dished on must have Black Friday deals, and gave us the scoop on a HP 2-in-1 device that will be $120 off from Thanksgiving (November 27th) to November 29th.
Candace Rose: Where can shoppers go to get great deals on tech this holiday season?
Andrea Smith: “We’ve partnered with five brands for great tech gift ideas this season, starting with Office Depot and OfficeMax. You can get the HP Pavilion x2 2-in-1, it’s awesome – it transforms from a notebook to a tablet. It’s got a detachable keyboard, makes it really ultra portable, and it’s going to be on a Black Friday special from November 27 through 29th for $120 off. You can also check out all of the Black Friday deals at Office Depot, at OfficeDepot.com/BlackFriday.
Also, check out the copy and print services because it’s great to see the personalized calendars and photo books, they’re great gifts for grandparents.”
Candace Rose: Do you have any gift ideas for the student or multitasker in your life?
Andrea Smith: “I do! This is great for multitaskers or anyone who likes to write with pen and paper – the Livescribe 3 Smartpen (please see video above for details). What makes it smart? You can write your notes on paper, on the Livescribe moleskin notebook and it digitizes them, that way you can search all your notes, you can email your notes to someone, or you can use the Livescribe+ app on an iPad or iPhone and you can record audio. That way you can just tap your notes and hear exactly what’s going on at that moment in time. It’s the perfect gift for someone who likes pen and paper.”
Candace Rose: Do you have a gift the whole family will enjoy?
Andrea Smith: “I think I do! A Samsung 65″ UHD Curved TV. These are gorgeous. I’ve got the HU9000 here (please see video above for details), this delivers a lifelike perfect picture 4K quality, and because it’s got the curved screen, you’re going to get a real immersive experience, it’s like sitting in a home movie theater…not a bad seat in the house!
Samsung’s proprietary technology always makes sure you have a lifelike picture. We’ve heard a lot about 4K content, you’re going to be able to watch streaming 4K content from services like Netflix and then the TV will also upscale lower resolution conflicts, so you’re going to get an amazing picture on this TV.”
Candace Rose: Are there any new cool smartphones we should look for?
Andrea Smith: “There’s always new cool smartphones, it’s incredible! The Intel powered Asus PadFone X Mini is a 4.5 inch phone that converts to a seven inch tablet, so you get two devices in one. It’s also got an Intel processor and LTE modem, so you get laser fast web browsing, long battery life, it’s great for emails, phone calls, watching movies and gaming.”
Candace Rose: Is it true that SmartWatches are one of the hottest holiday gifts this season?
Andrea Smith: “SmartWatches are definitely a trend this year. I’ve got the Martian Notifier SmartWatch on, and I like it because it looks like a real watch. I also like that I don’t have to go digging in my bag to find out who is calling me, the caller ID pops up right on my wrist – same thing for text messages and voicemails. You can choose from thousands of apps like Facebook and ESPN, get custom notifications using the Martian app on iOS or Android. Tell it what you want to know. You can also customize the vibration, so you know if you’re getting a text, a phone call or somebody’s Facebook status update is coming to your wrist.”
Candace Rose: Do you have any additional tips or information you’d like to share with us?
