I hate cancer with every ounce of my being. Like many of you, I’ve lost very significant people in my life to this horrible disease. Today marks seven years that my great uncle lost his battle to prostate cancer, and on Sunday it’ll be eight years that my grandpa passed away due to prostate cancer. Cancer doesn’t discriminate. It doesn’t care how old you are, how much money you have, what car you drive, where you live, your race, ethnicity, gender. Hell, it even took two of my dogs! Today, I’m standing up for cancer in honor of my family, friends and those of you who’ve lost those you love due to this hellish disease. I urge you to stand up to cancer tonight! We’re honored to feature the Stand Up To Cancer live-stream telecast and will do anything we possibly can to put an end to cancer!
Journalist Katie Couric, who lost her first husband Jay Monahan to colon cancer in 1998, will be returning as host of Stand Up To Cancer. Couric lost her mother Elinor just this week, but that isn’t keeping her away from the cause that means everything to her.
According to CBS News “Some of the stars expected to attend the event include Robert Downey Jr., Reese Witherspoon, Jennifer Aniston, Halle Berry, Jon Hamm, Kiefer Sutherland, Ben Stiller, Kevin Bacon, Steve Carell, Sofia Vergara, Anna Kendrick, Ben Stiller, Will Ferrell, Pierce Brosnan, Melissa McCarthy and Josh Gad, The Who, Jennifer Hudson, Lupe Fiasco & Common, Ariana Grande and Dave Matthews Band will provide musical performances during the event, which is being co-executive produced by Gwyneth Paltrow.”
