Candace Rose: What’s your top tip for smart convenient shopping this season?

Katie Linendoll: “I’m actually blown away by the fact that you don’t even need to leave the house to do back to school shopping. It’s funny because I remember my mom and I going back to so many different stores to pick up gadgets and bedding and textbooks and all that fun stuff.  Today, I’m featuring six gadgets all from Amazon.com, and what’s cool is they’ve made it very, very easy – they have a back to school shop and an off to college store, so all of your shopping whether it is textbooks or whether it is gadgets all in one location.

Let’s start off with probably the most popular device, this is the Kindle Paperwhite, and I like the price point here – $119. It is the world’s best selling e-reader and rightfully so. You can get access to over a million titles. This tiny little device is only 7.3 ounces but has access up to 1100 books it’s going to hold for you. On sunny days there’s no glare because it uses special e ink technology. Also, if you’ve got a new roommate in a dorm, no problem – you can read at night because it has a builtin front light. Holding 1100 books is a lot different than what we used to have with 12 to 14 books in on us. It’s an awesome little option for e-reading.”

Candace Rose: What should we be looking for in tablets?

Katie Linendoll: “If you’re like ‘Hey, I love the e-reading option, but I’d love to kick it up a notch and get a full on tablet’, this is the Kindle Fire HDX 8.9, and it’s 8.9 because of the screen size (please see video above for details). What’s cool is 13.2 ounces. It’s great nice little real estate size, it is actually the lightest large screen tablet.

Now when we talk back to school, this is important for parents, you can actually save up to 80% when you rent Kindle e-textbooks. Textbooks are extremely expensive, take advantage of either renting them or saving 50% when you actually buy them on the Kindle Fire HDX. One thing I also like on here is the mayday button. If you have any tech questions, tech support will actually pop up live on the screen in under 10 seconds, 24/7, 365 days a year to answer all of your tech questions.”

Candace Rose: Are there any other must haves that we need to know about?

Katie Linendoll: “Yes. Probably this guy right in front of me here, you’ve heard of that’s getting a ton of press, it is Amazon’s first smartphone – this is hot off the market. It’s jam-packed with features – 13 megapixel camera, 1080p video, 4.7 inch HD display, but features I’ve never even heard of before! There’s a button called firefly, you touch it and it instantly can identify 100 million objects just with a touch of a button, so songs, TV shows. If you’re walking past a sign and it has a number on it, it’ll actually pick up that number…so very cool technology packed inside here, plus a bonus of you get a free year of Amazon Prime, which pretty much all of us use, so take it as a bonus.”

Candace Rose: Do you have any other tech favorites?

Katie Linendoll: “Yes. This one is in my apartment, this is Amazon Fire TV, it’s only $99. When we talk back to school, you have that tiny little dorm room, now you can actually use to get all the entertainment inside that small dorm room. There’s thousands of access to TV shows, movies, games, Netflix, Hulu Plus all by plugging this right into the television set. What’s cool is this week (for example) I downloaded “Noah” the movie on demand, I also downloaded the WWE app on Fire TV and actually watched some programing on my Tuesday. It’s neat because there’s also a voice command remote, so you can actually speak your selection right into the remote and it’ll pull it up for you.”

Candace Rose: Do you have any additional tips or information you’d like to share?

Katie Linendoll: “I have two more really quickly. This baby here is awesome, we talk about laptops and obviously that’s synonymous with going back to school, this is a Samsung Chromebook 2 (please see video above for details) – price point insane – $299 starting at, 11.6 inch HD screen, eight hours of battery life, very fast and easy access internet and four and a half out of five stars on Amazon.com. So Chromebooks. It’s very buzz worthy these days because of the price point and only putting in the things that you absolutely need. Very popular item.

Last but not least, this is a Seagate Backup Slim terabyte external hard drive. This is going to hold hundreds and thousands of files for you. I am obsessed with my external hard drives, I know that sounds really nerdy, but the reason is it’s 5.3 ounces, easy to transport and again, you can just throw all of your files on there – so if you’re heading home for the weekend, you’re going class to class and you want to save those files, go ahead and put it on the Seagate and never have to worry about it.”

Candace Rose: Where can we go for more information?

Katie Linendoll: “Yes, so there’s a back to school and also an off to college store on Amazon.com.”
