As someone who isn’t very fond of eggs for breakfast, it can be difficult to find a sufficient breakfast that is both healthy and can be made quickly. I adore steel cut oats, they’re filling and provide energy, but as many of you know, they can be difficult to make and are extremely time consuming. I’ve made various overnight steel cut oats recipe in the past, but the last couple of times I’ve made them they spoiled very quickly. Like many of you who are busy and on the go, there are times when I’m embarrassed to admit that I ditch breakfast because I don’t have the time to make it. This weekend while shopping at my neighborhood grocery store, Raley’s, I stumbled on the Raley’s brand frozen Steel Cut Oats oatmeal. The frozen oats were on sale for $3.00 (four come in a pack) and I thought to give them a try. I’ve always liked steel cut oats with Greek yogurt, but there again, I never use enough and I end up throwing most of it away. I had no idea that you can get Sunnyside single serving size Greek yogurt for $1.00! I picked that up as well, some fresh strawberries, raisins and pineapple and off I went.
While it’s more expensive to buy prepackaged frozen steel cut oats, I have to tell you it’s really motivated me to actually eat it. All I do is remove the film, put it in the microwave for a minute and a half, stir it up, put it back in for 30 seconds, put it in a bowl, add a couple dollops of Greek yogurt, add some milk (I love dairy, but if you are on a non-dairy diet, you can surely substitute it with coconut milk or almond milk, etc), add a little raw honey (I have a sweet tooth) and your favorite berries/fruit! I adore fresh strawberries, pineapple and raisins so I made sure to add those in.
If you’re busy like I am, on the go, never feel that you have enough time and you want a healthy nutritious breakfast, I highly recommend it! If you don’t have a Raley’s in your area, I’m sure other stores are now carrying frozen steel cut oats!
