The holiday travel season is upon us! With Thanksgiving just a day away, many of us will be heading out today to visit family and friends by car, plane or train. If you’re one of the millions heading out on the road or the friendly skies this holiday season, you’re in luck! Travel expert and Discovery Channel host, Kinga Philipps joined me for an interview recently to discuss her top holiday travel tips and the must have products you need to ensure you have a memorable trip!
Candace Rose: How can we get the most out of our holiday travel dollar this season?
Kinga Philipps: “Well, holiday travel is so much fun, we all love it. We love visiting family and friends, but it can be stressful and there can be a lot of hassles, so I have some fun tips and tricks and cool products that are going to make it a little more hassle-free for those planes, trains, automobiles and jets that we want to take.
Let’s start with automobiles. I think if you’re out there and you’re doing the Griswold family style vacation like I used to do, that is a great way to do it. The tip that I have is make sure that your car is ready for winter temperatures- check your tires, check your blades, make sure all of your fluids are up to par because it can get really cold out there and you want to be safe on the roads. The other thing is when you are traveling to grandma’s house for dinner or out there shopping for gifts for the holiday season…you don’t want to break the bank to cut fuel costs. I have teamed up with Shell to introduce the Fuel Rewards Network program. This is a great free loyalty based program, and essentially it allows you to take all the money that you would spend anyway dining out and shopping and turn it into fuel savings at participating pumps across the country. The website to visit is FuelRewards.com. I encourage everyone to sign up, because if you spend a little money…you get to spend money on Christmas gifts, so everyone loves that.
Air travel can be kind of hectic this time of year. I personally encourage people, if you don’t have to, don’t check a bag. Carry it on. There are all kinds of tricks of the trade things that you can do. I roll everything instead of folding it to make it nice and tight in the bag. Put all of your toiletries in those tiny little bags (if you can), you can go to any store and buy the little containers so your shampoos and all your pretty creams and everything can go in there. But sometimes you are going to have to check a bag, and when you do…the advice I can give that I think is so important is take all of your medications and keep them on you. The last thing you want to deal with is lost luggage or having to stand around baggage claim for an extra hour if there’s something in there that you need.
And it’s also flu season during the holidays and nobody wants to get sick. We want to enjoy ourselves and eat a lot (we don’t want to be sick). What I always pack in my bag along with my medications is Oscillococcinum. This is a great product, it’s natural. Studies prove that it reduces the duration and severity of the flu if you do get it, and you always want to have it on you because you do want to take it at the first sign of symptoms. If you’re feeling a little bit woozy, you want to take one of these to feel better. It’s not going to make you drowsy because nobody wants to sleepy when they travel. It’s safe for ages two and up.
Hydration- this time of year it’s so dry out there, the cabins of airplanes recycle air, it’s so super dry. The cold weather doesn’t do wonders for our skin. The Every Drop by Whirlpool water filter is a great little item that you can toss in your bag, and take anywhere with you. Its great contoured funnel design allows you to filter a gallon in just two minutes. It’s totally affordable, so you can take it anywhere you need to go. You can filter your own water and eliminate that chlorine taste and those odors that come with tap water, so this is really a great product to have.
How about luxury? What if we just decided to eliminate all of the hassles of travel during the holidays altogether. If you love it as much as I do, I have something for us! Flexjet the award winning private jet company is offering the passport to the world. Now this is truly a five star getaway for up to eight people, and is the only one of its kind. It’s the very first truly private air jet tour around the world for up to eight people. Abercrombie & Kent inspired. This is just truly glorious, so you and seven of your favorite friends or family members can go around the world on a private jet, one of their Challenger 605’s spacious jet series. This is the way to see the wonders of the world.
These are just a few of my favorite things this time of year and products that add a little bit of luxury, some health and savings in the old bank account that I really love.”
Candace Rose: Wonderful! Thank you so much, Kinga. Where can we go for more information?
Kinga Philipps: “Well, Candace, there are websites for everything, and of course we have all kinds of information on the sites here. There’s FuelRewards.com to find out more about the FRN program, you can go to Oscillococcinum.com to find out more about this product. You can go to EveryDropWater.com to find out more about the handy dandy filter, and you can go to FlexJet.com to find out about the gift that keeps on giving…the world’s most luxurious vacation.”
