How to Makeover Your Kitchen On A Budget with Home Improvement Expert, Danny Lipford

Are you looking to make any home improvements to your kitchen before the holidays? If so, you’re in luck! Home improvement expert, Danny Lipford joined me recently to dish on some simple ways we can makeover our favorite room in the house in no time and while sticking to a budget!

Candace Rose: What are some simple ways we can makeover our kitchen?

Danny Lipford: “One of the biggest surfaces you have in your kitchen of course are the counter tops. To make a difference there can make a big difference in your kitchen. Just a couple weeks ago we were starting on this project and the counter tops were very dull. The homeowners had a modest budget and they wanted to make a big impact, we did that by painting the counter tops with Giani granite countertop paint. Everything you needed was right in the kit. We started with a black primer and we came back with three different colors and a little sponge to create the multicolor multilayered look that is so cool with the granite finish. Then we finished it up with clear coats that are included in this kit that is perfect for an average kitchen, and the good thing about it is it only costs $79.00 to do this entire kitchen- I think that’s pretty impressive.”

Candace Rose: Do you have any advice on selecting energy efficient appliances?

Danny Lipford: “Well, of course anytime that you can replace all of your appliances it’s great, but most of the time the budget is a little limited, so you can do what these homeowners have done and do one at a time. They started with a quality range hood from Braun. They removed another one that was kind of obsolete. This one is from the Allure series and it’s Energy Star rated so it’s very important that it’ll enable them to save up to 30% on their power bill over a traditional range hood. It’s got the little night lights and you’ve also got the brighter light that’s needed for all of the cooking. More importantly it’s got a very quiet energy efficient exhaust motor in it so that you have two different speeds to adequately provide the ventilation you need for a healthy kitchen- not only the odors, but all the moisture that can accumulate in an area like this.”

Candace Rose: Are there any other must haves we need to know about?

Danny Lipford: “I hear homeowners talking all the time about standing in front of the sink during the holidays and it being so cold because it’s cold outside and maybe the window leaking so much. You might not be able to see it but I installed a clear film over this window that’s part of the Duct brand Roll-On kit. Everything you need is in the kit and very easy to install- basically you start right at the top with part of the film that is pre-taped at the top. You cut off the access, then you have double stick tape around the perimeter of the window, then you break out the unique tool in the toolbox: the hair dryer! You heat it up just a little bit and it eliminates all the wrinkles and you still have the protection of that air gap between the plastic and your window to protect you.”

Candace Rose: Do you have any additional tips or information you’d like to share with us?

Danny Lipford: “On our website TodaysHomeOwner.com we talk about low budget ways of improving your kitchen in just about any part of your house, as well as a lot of information on the things we talked about today.”
