Are you looking to take a great last minute trip before summer is officially over? If so, you’re in luck! Expedia Viewfinder travel contributor and Captain and Clark founder, Chris Staudinger joined me yesterday to dish on how you can win one free trip anywhere around the world! How fab would that be? The only catch is you have to take me. Just kidding, you can take me if you want to! 😉 Chris also dished on the top travel destinations of 2013, and discussed why the Expedia travel app is the must have accessory, every traveler needs.
Candace Rose: I heard you had a great time in New York yesterday; can you tell us a little bit about it?
Chris Staudinger: “I’d be happy to. I was in downtown New York and it was chitchatting with people, trying to ask them what is your favorite trip? Where would you go if you could go anywhere? And they were looking it up on the new Expedia app, and then we actually had a surprise (please see video above for details on the amazing surprise)!”
Chris Staudinger: “I have good news for you, Candace!”
Candace Rose: You’re sending me on a trip?! 😉
Chris Staudinger: “Actually, anybody who downloads the Expedia app between now and October 13th…everyday they’re going to give away one free trip. So it could be you!”
Candace Rose: That’s amazing.
Chris Staudinger: “I wish I had control over it.”
Candace Rose: I wish you did too!
Chris Staudinger: “Even if you don’t win the trip, it’s awesome because the app itself has exclusive deals. I don’t know if you’re a big road tripper, but I always like to go out for the weekend or whatnot…and so you punch in the app, and it looks at where you are and then within 10 miles of that spot it shows you all the hotels that are available. And then because you’re booking it at that last minute they offer usually up to 60% on the hotel.”
Candace Rose: What are the biggest travel trends you’ve noticed this year?
Chris: “Honestly, it’s spontaneity. We’ve noticed that 25% of Americans that we’ve talked to use their travel apps to book all of their travel, and of those, 71% are booking hotels the night of. I believe it’s like 84% within that 10 mile radius. So we’re seeing people getting out there, booking the trip and then wherever they end up that night they get a hotel.”
Candace Rose: What are some of the top destinations this year?
Chris : “You’ve got your usual ones like Orlando, New York and Las Vegas that are still at the top of the list. But we’re actually seeing development in some unusual spots like San Antonio, Texas. They have this thriving art culture that’s coming up!
The east coast of Michigan actually has an incredible culinary scene developing right now where it’s like farm to table, but the farm is literally right outside the restaurant.
And even my hometown of Seattle is really boosting both family and outdoor travel, but also micro distilleries and wine country.”
Candace Rose: Wonderful! Well, thank you so much, Chris. Where can we go for more information?
Chris: “Go to Expedia.com, or you can actually just download the mobile app right to your tablet or your iPhone just out of the app store.”
