How to Design an Outdoor Room with HGTV’s “The Outdoor Room” Jamie Durie

By   /   June 20, 2013  /   No Comments

With the summer solstice officially upon us, HGTV’s “The Outdoor Room” host and architect Jamie Durie stopped by live from Malaysia to share his tips on how to create the perfect outdoor room! He also dished on how you can enter to win a chance to have him help build your dream garden!!!

Jamie Durie: “I’ve built you a beautiful outdoor kitchen, I’ve got a simple four burner barbeque from Lowes, dropped that into a beautiful outdoor kitchen with drawers and all sorts of things. I’ve got a beautiful outdoor dining area with seating for just about 10 people which is perfect for the 4th of July with a vertical garden at the end.

I’ve got an outdoor lounge room which is built in a modular fashion so you can get those lovely little conversations going. Lowes has a whole range of different furniture that you can arrange in configurations just like this to let people stay awhile and enjoy good conversation so they’re connected to nature in the form of a vertical garden, which I’ve created with irrigation lines running through it and you simply plan out all the pockets and bang you’ve got this vertical garden which you’re flanked by. People love being connected with nature especially when you’re around lovely hedging plants.

But if you’re on a budget and you simply want to create something for a couple hundred bucks, well here it is (please see video) it’s very very simple- two bench seating on an l shaped configuration. I’ve got some hedging plants behind me, a little coffee table and I call this the conversation corner. It’s very very simple.

We do have a challenge, if you go to Lowes.com/PinterestSweepstakes, I might just end up in your backyard to build you your very own dream garden.”
