Candace Rose: How can we think outside the box this year and do something really special for mom this Mother’s Day?

Danielle Knox: “The key is really going beyond the flowers and candy, which I have to tell you is absolutely great. One of the things that moms really want to do- a recent survey suggested 93% of moms want to relax! They don’t want to do anything. They want to keep up their feet, have a great time which is something we’re never able to do because we’re always thinking about somebody else, whether it’s your partner or your children or your job. We’re always giving giving giving. Mother’s Day is that one time of year where we can get and not feel guilty. It really is (as you said) about thinking outside the box.”

Candace Rose: Do you have any great gift ideas for those who won’t get to spend Mother’s Day with their mom this year?

Danielle Knox: “I think that’s a great point because so many of us live so far away from our family. I live in Florida, I’m here working in New York; my sister lives in North Carolina; our mother lives in California. We’re scattered all across the country. You can give a card, but you can give Skype. It’s a much more memorable meaningful way to give that gift of yourself virtually face to face. I absolutely love it!

You can connect with mom face to face with video chat. It really is a great thing. You can treat mom to a virtual breakfast in bed, which is really cool. With Skype Premium you can do group video calling. So as I said, we all live across the country so only one of us has to have Skype Premium. So if I have it for example, I can call my sister and then we can go ahead and conference in with my mom. All of us can talk and really share those great memories. The Skype gift card is really wonderful because it’s a great way to stay connected with mom even beyond Mother’s Day. You can do file sharing, so if for example there’s a great recipe that your mom has been promising to give you, hit her up on Skype. You guys can share that recipe, walk each other through that recipe. If there’s an ingredient that she says she doesn’t put in, but you see her tossing that in there, you can say ‘Now I know why that tastes better than when I make it. It’s a really great way to share. I mean, $10.00 is all you need to get started to create some really great precious memories.”

Candace Rose: Do you have any gift ideas for the mom with a sweet tooth?

Danielle Knox: “That would be me, I do have a sweet tooth! Yes, I do have some great gift ideas for that. I love sweets all year round but Mother’s Day is really that one day that I can indulge that sweet tooth and not feel guilty about it. I found a really great way that you can do just that as well, and that’s with the Dole Banana Dippers. I have to tell you I love them because I love bananas, but you also get my other favorite indulgence, which is dark chocolate. OMG…so good. Between 100 and 120 calories so a guilt-free way to enjoy something sweet, and then your loved one can give that to you any time during the day, whether you’re relaxing on the couch with your feet kicked up after the dinner that they’ve cooked for you, they can give you that for dessert. And you see some have almonds and some don’t. The almonds are 120 calories, and those without are 100 calories. Seriously, just a guilt-free way to indulge. It is a simple lovely thought.

At the end of the day it does not have to be anything expensive. It really is the thought that counts on Mother’s Day. If you come to mom with nothing, then you’ve got a problem. You’ve got to come up with something.”

Candace Rose: Do you have any additional tips or information you’d like to share with us?

Danielle Knox: “I would say at the end of the day, mom wants to spend time with you. My boys are still pretty young and I really don’t have that separation anxiety yet, but mom wants to spend time with you, so anything you can do to spend time together, I think mom is really going to appreciate. And make something that’s ‘homemade’ like a photo collage that you can put all kinds of memories and pictures of you and mom, and your own family in there that she can have all the time. Memories are really great. The other thing that would be really great for my family if they would do for me (if they’re watching), I want you guys to know: wash the dishes, clean the house, you had me at hello. I would be happy if you would do that for me on Mother’s Day in addition to everything you see here today.

But again, it’s not expensive to do. It’s the thought that counts.”

Candace Rose: Absolutely! Where can we go for more information?

Danielle Knox: “For more information on anything that you’ve seen here today, Candace, simply go to the website, it’s VideoPump.tv.”
