On Friday night’s episode of “Fashion Star” (season 2 episode 8) ‘His and Hers’, the designers were informed by mentors Jessica Simpson, Nicole Richie and John Varvatos that they would be given the toughest challenge of the season, to create “his and hers wear.”

When speaking to the four remaining designers about their prospective challenge, John stated “We want you to create one piece for a woman in two colors, and one piece for a man in two colors.”

Designer Hunter Bell (who has been bought every week) really felt uneasy about this week’s challenge. She stated “This is 100% the hardest challenge for me. I’ve never in my life even attempted to design menswear, plus we have to create four garments. This is insane.” Jessica Simpson reiterated Hunter’s feelings, saying “This is the first week that I’ve been nervous for Hunter.”

John Varvatos felt confident in designer Cassandra Hobbins who has had experience working in menswear. Daniel Silverstein, Nicole Richie’s only remaining designer felt very confident in his menswear and womenswear collections and knew that he had to take a risk this week.

Team John’s designers were the first to take their “his and her” wear to the stage. Host Louise Roe asked John Varvatos what he thought of his team tonight and he said “I’m not feeling the wow.”

When it came to being bought, Cassandra of Team John and Daniel of Team Nicole were the only designers to have both their menswear and womenswear collections purchased. It was also revealed during the show that Daniel has sold more than any “Fashion Star” contestant with $800,000.

JesseRay Vasquez and Garrett Gerson of Team Jessica had the biggest sale of the night when Saks and Macy’s both bid $200,000 on their shirtdress. Since bids can’t go any higher than $200,000, JesseRay and Garrett had to choose to stick with Macy’s Caprice Willard who has been a strong supporter of the design duo or go with Terron E. Schaeffer of Saks Fifth Avenue. Ultimately they chose Macy’s.

Unfortunately for the first week since the competition started, Hunter Bell was not bought.

Jessica Simpson, Nicole Richie and John Varvatos had that difficult decision of choosing two designers to potentially be eliminated. Shockingly Hunter Bell (who didn’t sell tonight) and Silvia Arguello who didn’t have one of her strongest week’s despite selling her asymmetrical top, were told that they would have to stand on stage with host Louise Roe to potentially face elimination. When it came to it, Terron E. Schaeffer of Saks Fifth Avenue voted for Hunter Bell, Caprice Willard of Macy’s voted for Silvia, and in the end Erika De Salvatore of Express had the difficult task of telling talented Italian based designer, Silvia Arguello that she would not be this season’s “fashion star.”
