On Friday night’s episode of NBC’s “Fashion Star” (season 2 episode 7) ‘Night on The Town’, the designers were informed by the judges/mentors that they would have the amazing opportunity to work with renowned photographer Timothy White to create a campaign around the Fiat 500, and work in pairs to design a look for a night on the town.
With only six contestants left and the challenges becoming more and more difficult, nerves were definitely on edge. Nobody was more excited about the challenge than designer Silvia Arguello. She stated, “I feel really confident about this one, I must say. I live in Italy and the Fiat has been an icon for years there. I feel that it’s a little bit of my home in Italy here.”
John Varvatos told the designers “Jessica, Nicole and I will be choosing one winning team that creates the best image and whose designs best compliment Fiat’s iconic look, and the designers will each win their very own Fiat 500 Turbo.” There was a twist to Friday night’s challenge….nobody was safe from elimination, even if they won the car or made the biggest sale of the night.
When it came to the teams, Team John consisted of Cassandra Hobbins and Silvia Arguello; Team Jessica was Hunter Bell and JesseRay Vasquez and Garrett Gerson; and Team Nicole’s Johana Hernandez and Daniel Silverstein.
Nobody felt the pressure to sell on last night’s episode quite like Daniel. After failing to sell last week and nearly facing elimination, he was spotted crying and confiding in fellow designer Hunter Bell. He knew he had to wow the buyers and did he ever. He created a bidding war between Saks and Express and sold his back zipper dress to Express for $175,000. Hunter on the other hand who has sold every week, nearly wasn’t bought because according to Caprice Willard she didn’t follow the week’s challenge and created a daytime look instead of a ‘night on the town.’
Both Silvia and Daniel tied for the biggest sales of the night at $175,000; and Team Johns’ Cassandra Hobbins was the only designer who wasn’t bought. When she asked for feedback, Terron E. Schaeffer stated that he “felt less is more and was disappointed.”
In the end, it was Daniel Silverstein and Johana Hernandez who won the Fiat 500; but unfortunately Johana’s luck ended there. She and designer Cassandra Hobbins were brought back up to stand next to host Louise Roe and potentially face elimination. The buyers stated that they had a very difficult decision choosing who to vote off. Caprice Willard of Macy’s voted for Johana, Saks, Terron E. Schaeffer voted for Cassandra, and Erika De Salvatore of Express had the difficult task of telling Johana Hernandez she would not be this season’s “Fashion Star.”
