Are you planning a last minute trip for Spring Break, but struggling to find the best deals or perfect destination? Expedia’s Sarah Gavin joined me for an interview recently to dish on the top destinations spring breakers of all ages are heading to for fun in the sun. She also shared tips on how you can get the best last minute deals right from your smartphone.
Candace Rose: What’s the secret to planning a great trip for spring break?
Sarah Gavin: “If you want to go to a beautiful destination; I’m at the Grand Solmar Land’s End Resort & Spa, here at Los Cabos and I have to say there has never been a better time to get deals on trips like this.
So the first thing you want to do is always make sure that you book your flight and your hotel at the same time. So often we’ve been trained to think about how to game the system, book your flight at a certain time and a certain day. It’s absolutely true, you can save 10 or 20 bucks that way; but if you book your flight and your hotel at the same time you can save on average up to $525 on that trip. And that’s money you can either pocket and keep at home, or reinvest it to that spa trip or that snorkeling trip that you wouldn’t have otherwise done, just to make your vacation even better.”
Candace Rose: What are some of the top destinations for spring breakers?
Sarah Gavin: “It’s all about the beach, no matter who you are or where you want to go; everyone just wants to be warm this year. It’s been a cold winter in a lot of places across the country, so folks want to go to places like Los Cabos, Hawaii and Cancun (for spring break.)
The Dominican Republic is increasingly a a popular beach destination. There are a lot of really nice four-star all inclusive hotels there.
In the states- places like Tampa are having a great sale right now. You can still get last minute three-star hotels in Tampa for $130 or $140, which is a really great deal for spring break.”
Candace Rose: Do you have any money saving tips to share with us today?
Sarah Gavin: “The other thing I would say is there’s nothing like a great Spring Break road trip. The road trip of yesterday is gone. You used to have to plan everything so far out, and you could only spend a certain amount of time in each city as you had to get to wherever you had the hotel reservation. Now, today with all of us carrying our mobile phones everywhere we go, you can book last minute deals on your Expedia mobile app right from your phone and save up to 60% on hotels for that night or the next night out which gives you so much flexibility and spontaneity.”
Candace Rose: Do you have any additional tips or information you’d like to share?
Sarah Gavin: “The other thing I would say is just go follow Expedia on Facebook. We post new deals every single day and some of them are only available for 24 hours.”
