On tonight’s episode of NBC Fashion Star season 2 episode 4 “It’s Getting Hot In Here”, the designers/mentees were informed that instead of working as individuals, they would be working in teams. They were challenged to create the must have looks for summer, and were given three themes: Tropical Vacation, Pool Party and Summer in the City to choose from.
Once again, Team John was the team to beat with four designers/mentees. Nicole had three designers on her team, and Jessica had the least with two designers.
Team Nicole chose to go with Summer in the City; Team John went with Tropical Vacation, and Team Jessica went with Pool Party.
Before the challenge, John Varvatos met with his mentees and told them “You need to think about a cohesive fashion show for each one of your teams- color palette, fabric, silhouette. It’s gotta work together, it’s gotta be one voice.” John felt that “This is the biggest challenge in the competition so far. They have to somehow overcome any personality differences, design differences to create something that looks like it came from one designer.” For the most part, his mentees got along and were able to overcome their personality differences, but Cassandra and Amber did but heads a bit. Amber was upset when she heard that Cassandra was telling people that she was surprised that her (Amber’s) dress was bought by Saks Fifth Avenue last week. It caused more problems when Cassandra overheard Amber telling Silvia about it. Despite that, John’s team was very successful once again. Each of this designers were bought, except for Amber.
Team Nicole had a bit of drama as well. Daniel, Priscilla and Johana had decided they would work on a short suit- Daniel would create the blazer, Priscilla would work on the shorts, and Johana would design the tank. In the middle of the competition, Johana decided that she would create a romper instead. She felt it was her time to “shine” and she wouldn’t be able to if she created the tank. Daniel and Priscilla were visibly upset and confronted Johana about her decision, but in the end she made the right decision for herself, as she was the only one who was bought and even created a bidding war amongst the buyers!
Jessica Simpson felt that she had the team to beat because mentees/designers Garrett and JesseRay are from Malibu, and Hunter is the front runner. For the first time all season, every one of Jessica’s designers were bought, and Hunter was the first designer this season to be in all stores.
When it came down to elimination, Fashion Star host Louise Roe was on stage with Amber, Daniel and Priscilla. Not surprisingly, Daniel was sent backstage, and Amber and Priscilla were left to face the judges. Macy’s Caprice Willard voted for Amber to eliminated. Erika De Salvatore of Express voted for Priscilla, and in the end it was Terron E. Schaeffer of Saks Fifth Avenue who had the difficult task of telling Priscilla that she would not be this season’s “Fashion Star.”
