With March being National Nutrition Month, SELF magazine’s Beauty Director, Elaine D’Farley joined me this morning to dish on how you can look fabulous from the inside out! She also shared two of her top beauty must haves for those with sensitive skin, and those of us looking for a bronzy glow!
Candace Rose: What can we do to look and feel our best from the inside out this season?
Elaine D’Farley: “Well, it all starts with nutrition and it’s National Nutrition month, so we’re hear to talk about breakfast which is the most important meal of the day. And Mom Brands has developed a new cereal that’s ready to eat called Spooners, and it comes in five delicious flavors- for example: Mixed Berry, Cinnamon, Chocolate. And the fantastic thing about this brand is there are no artificial flavors, preservatives, there’s no high fructose corn syrup, and each serving is filled with five grams of fiber. Plus it has a stamp of approval from the Whole Grains Council, so it really doesn’t get better than that. And it comes in a fantastic stand up bag which reduces the amount of packaging, so it’s good for the environment too.”
Candace Rose: What can we do to look good on the outside?
Elaine D’Farley: “On the outside you really want to take care of your skin. It’s your biggest organ, and you want your facial skin to glow, so you need a good routine. We love this line called Simple. They have a skincare regime that’s good for sensitive skin or all kinds of skin and they take a holistic approach to beauty. In fact they’ve introduced a Simple advisory board which is a panel of experts from the world of nutrition and fitness and psychiatry, so you can really deal with your whole being. And you can go to SimpleSkincare.com for more information from those experts, and you can try their new Simple Foaming Facial Cleanser, which is really lightweight as it goes on. It feels super luxurious, but it’s very affordable. It takes off all the impurities and all your makeup, and it makes your skin feel rejuvenated and moisturized at the same time which is really the key to having a great glow for spring.”
Candace Rose: What can makeup do for us?
Elaine D’Farley: “Makeup is the icing on the cake. Now that you’ve eaten well, you’ve taken care of your skin and it’s looking good; now you just want to give it a highlight, and bronzer is the perfect way to do that. There’s a new technology from Physician’s Formula which is a really big breakthrough for them, it’s the Bronze Booster Glow Boosting Airbrushing Bronzing Veil. It’s a new deluxe enriched formulation which activates your inner glow and brings it out and delivers a light as air skin perfecting smoothing finish that gives you this look like you’ve been lit from within and it’s only $15.95 at drugstores. I keep saying that if we all do all of this stuff we might just look like Gwyneth Paltrow on our April cover.”
Candace Rose: Do you have any additional tips or information you’d like to share with us?
Elaine D’Farley: “I’d like to tell you that SELF has a whole new look as of the March issue, and we’ve divided it into body’s, looks, and life because we feel that’s the way we all live. And there’s a lot of activated technology in there, you can activate an app and wave it over the cover, and up pops Gwyneth Paltrow’s trainer, Tracy Anderson and you can see her whole workout so there’s a lot of added value. There’s a lot more tips on SELF.com.”
