Are you looking to spruce up your beauty routine this year? Or perhaps organize your medicine cabinet and dresser? If you so, you’re in luck! REDBOOK magazine’s Morgan Thompson joined me yesterday to dish on her favorite new products, her number one must have, and how you can finally get your beauty products and supplies organized (and pretty) once and for all!
Candace Rose: Many of us set resolutions to organize our routines and our homes in the new year. Do you have any tips for organizing one’s beauty routine?
Morgan Thompson: “I do. We’re going to start with our skincare regimen because taking care of your skin is one of the easiest things that you can do, and it’s actually the most important part of your beauty routine, but unfortunately it’s also one of the most neglected.
Vaseline is making it a little easier for women who longer have to choose between what they want and what they need from a moisturizer with their improved Total Moisture line. This is a range of lotions that do good for your skin and feel good. There’s three different types and these variants all have a thicker formula, each combining the goodness of pure natural with the power of a stratus 3 multilayer complex along with great scents and bold bright packaging. You can use these lotions every day and you can find them at your local food, drug and mass retailers. Now one thing to note is it’s important to use your moisturizer immediately following a shower or a bath, that’s when your pores are open and your skin is moist and it can absorb the moisturizer that much better. It really locks it in for the entire day.
And your skin isn’t the only thing that gets dry and thirsty during the wintertime, especially as seasons change. Your hair can get dry as well. If you want to quench that thirst, we love Garnier Fructis Hydra Recharge. This is a brand new line that’s so great because there’s so many different types of hydrating products in it. It’s packed with encapsulated super beads including goji berry, passion fruit and kiwi- all filled with vitamins and amino acids. And this really gives you an intense burst of hydration. It instantly recharges your normal to dry hair, making it super silky, smooth and super hydrated. The key here is it’s not going to weight it down, so it’s the kind of product that you put on and it’s moisturized but you don’t feel like it’s heavy, so that’s great, we love that! All these products from Garnier are between $4-$6, and you can find them at your local drugstore.”
Candace Rose: Do you have any suggestions when it comes to our closets?
Morgan Thompson: “I do. When you’re talking about your closet, especially the new year is a great time to start, you want to clean things out. A great key or rule of them is if you haven’t worn it in over a year, definitely toss it. If it’s torn or if it’s ripped you want to throw it away. But if it’s gently used then you can give it to Goodwill or have a style swap with your girlfriends- they bring something, you bring something and everybody gets happy, and everybody walks away with something and it’s also a good incentive and you won’t dread the closet if you have a style swap.
We talked about great products here today, but as you’re buying new products, you want to throw out products. So when it comes to your beauty cabinet and your bathroom counter, you want to check those expiration dates and throw things out. If it smells a little weird, it may look a little funny, then it’s time to throw it out. And you can also reorganize everything if you have glass jars. So you can put your cotton balls in there; if you have razors, and makeup brushes- all these things make it so much easier because it’s pretty, but you’re organized. So that’s a great way to kind of see everything that you have whether it’s in your bathroom or your medicine cabinet or your bedroom dresser, you see everything and it makes it so much easier as you’re getting ready in the morning.”
Candace Rose: I think that must be the latest trend. I’ve been seeing nail polishes in glass jars (on Instagram) and they look so pretty.
Morgan Thompson: “Everything looks so much prettier in a glass jar!
Candace Rose: Do you have any additional tips or information you’d like to share?
Morgan Thompson: “Well, the other thing in terms of a beauty tip is that we always say drink more water, and you can’t drink enough. The average person really doesn’t. You should at least have eight 8 ounce glasses of water a day, and then if you’re not drinking that much you’re actually considered dehydrated. So that’s super important because what you put into your body, you’re going to see on your skin and on your hair. When you think about organizing, definitely throwing things out and doing it maybe like once a quarter is really key when we talk about getting new products in and old products out.
