Candace Rose: What are some of the hottest travel destinations this winter?

Jake Reid: “We’re seeing travelers across the country take advantage of three types of vacations. One is doing what I did, which is come find a beach and escape the cold winter rain and snow and get away for a nice relaxing sunny warm weather vacation

And then others are really taking advantage of the snowfall and hitting the mountains- going snowboarding, skiing, renting a house, getting a lodge, really enjoying the winter activities.

And then of course a ton of people like to travel home for the holidays and see grandma, and spend time with the family. We’re seeing a lot of that happen as well.”

Candace Rose: Where are some of the best destinations for those looking to travel for New Year’s?

Jake Reid: “Well, the top destinations continue to be places like New York City, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, San Francisco, Miami. Those types of places are very popular and there’s lots of parties that we’re seeing a lot of travelers take advantage of.”

Candace Rose: And with Spring Break, as hard as it is to believe it’s right around the corner. When should those who are looking to travel for Spring Break start planning their trip?

Jake Reid: “It’s certainly never to early to start thinking about Spring Break, and planning for your next vacation. We see that from 27 to 20 days out from an airfare standpoint is the lowest that rates go. You can plan ahead that way, and it’s certainly something that we at Expedia want Americans to think about is taking advantage of their vacation days.

We did a report that found that most Americans leave two or three vacation days on the table each year because they don’t take advantage. If you don’t use it you lose it. And that’s unfortunate because we all work really hard and want to get away. And at Expedia we want to help you find that trip that works for your budget and for your family, and what you guys like to do.”

Candace Rose: Do you have any additional tips or information you’d like to share with us?

Jake Reid: “Yeah one thing especially for the holidays and high travel time periods is to be flexible. Learn that if you book on a Tuesday, you might get the best deal. If you book your hotel and air together as opposed to package, you can save upwards of $500. Look at multiple airports and see what has the best deal. And then one thing we’re seeing a lot of families and a lot of couples do is just hop in the car and go on a road trip. Just because you don’t have the stomach to fly or it’s too expensive to fly doesn’t mean you can’t go and have a great getaway somewhere near you. There’s lots of hotel options and perfect getaways from all across the country.”

Candace Rose: Where can we go for more information?

Jake Reid: “Go to Expedia and take a look at our last minute deals for the holidays, look at our ASAP deals for really great savings and then you can follow us on Twitter and like us on Facebook for more exclusive deals through those channels as well.”
