Gold has been one of the hottest trends of 2012, and is projected to be just as big in 2013. Stars like Rihanna, Jennifer Hudson, Meryl Streep and Francesca Eastwood were just a few of the big name celebs who were spotted on the red carpet looking glam in their stunning gold accessories. The World Gold Council’s Sally Morrison joined me yesterday to share just a few of the hottest looks in gold jewelry just in time for the holidays and beyond!
Candace Rose: With the holidays approaching, what makes gold such a perfect gift?
Sally Morrison: “I think people have been in love with gold ever since they discovered it. It’s the stuff of dreams, right? It’s treasure, it’s romance, it’s the ‘Three Wise Men’, the ‘gold rings my true love sent to me’, and I think particularly at this time of the year where people want to give something meaningful just to someone they love, it’s the ultimate way to express commitment. It’s the symbol of the wedding band but it’s a beautiful piece of jewelry.”
Candace Rose: What are some of the key trends we should look for?
Sally Morrison: “Well, one of the trends we’re seeing on the red carpet this year which is really very hot is the big cuff bracelet, all the way through award shows, right up until last week Francesca Eastwood, who is Clint’s daughter, was named Miss Golden Globe, in a big statement gold cuff to a formal party.
I brought some to show you today (please see video for details).
Candace Rose: What should shoppers look for when buying gold?
Sally Morrison: “Well, I think they should go to a reputable jeweler that they trust, they should ask questions, they should do research before they go into the store and establishing what kind of piece they want. They should also do a little research on the person they are buying for- what does she like? Is she a very simple laid back girl that might like a beautiful simple chain?
For example this gold chain from Slane:
Or is she more bohemian and more imaginative in the way she dresses? Would she like something more intricate like a beautiful pendant from Me&Ro? They have very elaborate paisley engraving on it. I think it’s about knowing about the woman herself and what would she like and then having all that research done before you go shopping.”
Candace Rose: Do you have any additional tips or information you’d like to share with us?
Sally Morrison: “Well, I would encourage people to go to our Facebook page which is Facebook.com/Gold. There are lots of great stories there, inspiration about jewelry, interviews with great designers talking about their craft, and also a fantastic gallery of many different gold wedding rings. If you’re getting engaged this season or hoping to get engaged this season, do your research about your gold ring too.
