Gift expert Lindsay Roberts of The Gift Insider joined me yesterday to dish on some of her favorite last minute gifts for everyone on your list! If you’re looking for a fabulous gift for the kid in your life, the gal who has everything, the tech lover and so many more, Lindsay has you covered!
Candace Rose: With the holidays less than a week away do you have any gift ideas for those of us who’ve waited until the last minute?
Lindsay Roberts: “Yes. So you definitely don’t have much time, but I have some gifts and tips to help you out. One big thing is subscription boxes. It’s a huge trend. It’s kind of like the take on the month gifts. So items like BIRCHBOX are great. They send monthly samples. What you can do is print a quick e-gift certificate online and the it will come to them each month, so it doesn’t appear last minute.
Another way to go is with treats or edibles because it can really be for anyone so you can stock up a few days before and give to anyone. We recommend going a little unique, so we recommend the largest gummy bear of all time, we have some huge Rice Krispies treats and also some ways to do some hostess gifts. If you want to just add in a bottle of wine to a trendy and cool wine tote, that’s a perfect way to do it.”
Candace Rose: And gadgets, gifts and accessories are always popular. Are there any that you recommend?
Lindsay Roberts: “So many people are giving smartphones and cellphones this year, that we really recommend to make sure you’re insuring these smartphones. There are over 80 million phones that are lost, stolen or damaged each year, so you want to make sure you’re doing it right at holiday time. Asurion notes that you only have 30 days after your phone is activated to insure your device. If you don’t have insurance, replacing your phone can be over $600 so you don’t need that either.
Another great mobile gift is from Cricket Wireless and what they have is perfect for music lover and teens is their muve music, so you have unlimited music downloads built into your no contract wireless plan. Their plans start at just $50, and like I said they’re all no contract. You never have to pay per song and you have millions of songs at your fingertips on their most popular phones like the HTC One V. It’s also a download first service, you can have your music at any time with no buffering or skipping.
We also have a great recommendation if you have no idea what to get someone or if you know they might prefer money or something they really want. Popmoney is a company that lets you send money bank account to bank account online. They’ll even do an eGreeting, and it’s perfect all you need is their cellphone number or their email address and you can send it directly to them. So it’s perfect for those last minute gifts.”
Candace Rose: Do you have any out of the box gift suggestions for kids?
Lindsay Roberts: “We’re all about trying to get kids into a new hobby and do something fun, active outside. Don’t give them the same video games or toys. Tennis is really a great sport for kids. You can literally do it anywhere, and they’re starting to size it just right for kids as well. So they have smaller tennis rackets, they have lighter balls and you can play anywhere. The United States Tennis Association is trying to get more kids into the sport so they’re offering free memberships for kids 10 and younger.”
Candace Rose: We’ve all had that moment when we get a gift from someone we haven’t gotten a gift for. How should we handle that situation?
Lindsay Roberts: “Well, we recommend tackling that situation before it happens so have an emergency present bin like to call it. So have some gender neutral prepackaged goods- things like chocolates, things like lotions, things that you can quickly give to anyone on your list. If the situation does come up where you don’t have something we recommend to graciously accept the gift. Have some handwritten notes that you can quickly, immediately send a thank you note. But just make sure to not awkwardly stumble through a conversation and insincerely tell them that their gift is in the mail or something like that, just thank them appropriately.”
Candace Rose: Do you have any additional tips or information you’d like to share?
Lindsay Roberts: “You can find more info on all these gifts at MoreTipsForYou.com, and then on my website TheGiftInsider.com. We have lots of tips and advice, and creative out of the box ideas on there.
