Have you been contemplating purchasing Windows 8 for your trusty PC? Tech expert and Invention Hunters host Steve Greenberg was kind enough to join me recently to talk about the new operating system, and demonstrate just how it works on touchscreen computers and much more!

Candace Rose: What can we expect from Windows 8?
Steve Greenberg: “Well, actually I’m expecting a lot and I think it’s going to deliver a lot. The reviews are in and it’s gotten rave reviews. I’m working with Office Depot to show you this new operating system and hopefully wow you a little bit. You’re probably familiar with Windows 7, that’s the operating system on your current PC. The big difference between 7 and 8 has to be touch. It’s designed for touch screen devices. A study recently found that 46% of us will be buying a touch screen device this holiday season. Another big difference between 7 and 8 is that Windows 8 is all about customization. So you can take this Start screen for instance and you can customize it by downloading different apps that you want, setting them up the way you want so it becomes really your Start screen – whether it’s social networking or email or calendar or weather (please see video above for demonstration).
Also, it’s sharability and connectivity with Microsoft’s SkyDrive you can touch the screen and you can store and share your photographs, your music, your documents with family and friends through the Cloud, so it’s very simple.
Now Office Depot has some great new Windows products for example the HP Envy 23 TouchSmart All-in-one PC. It’s beautiful to look at, works really well and doesn’t take much space on your desk.
If you’re looking for something a bit smaller the ASUS Vivo RT Tab is sleek and beautiful, and again it’s got those tiles on it.
And behind that I have the Toshiba Satellite laptop. It’s not a touchscreen, it uses a mouse; but the point here is that Windows 8 doesn’t have to be in a touchscreen device. You can still get all the advantages of Windows 8 except the touchscreen features. You can access the rest of it via the mouse, which is something to keep in mind as well.
Also know that Office Depot has Microsoft accredited associates who are trained to help you find the right product for you. And with any Windows 8 purchase, you get free online training and support for 90 days, free data transfer and free PC recycling.
If you purchase Windows 8 in Office Depot they will install it for you for free and they will back up your existing data for free.”
Candace Rose: You also mentioned some of the hottest new gadgets everyone needs this season. Will we see prices go down at all before the holidays?
Steve Greenberg: “I think you’re seeing it already. I’m always blown away how electronics prices don’t stay the same, they actually go down. In general a lot of tech products are going down in price because it’s very competitive and technology keeps improving itself so the stuff that’s maybe a season behind certainly gets discounted big time.”
Candace Rose: Do you have any additional tips or information you’d like to share with us?
Steve Greenberg: “Well, if people want more information on Windows 8 they can go to OfficeDepot.com/Windows8. If they want more info on me, they can go to SteveGreenberg.tv.”
